Hey all , just acquired a 62 Buick Special convertible with a v6 auto. Im going just to clean it up a little and enjoy it for the summer. Its still on its way from CA. Anyway this question has been asked before , what does it take to drop a small block with a 3 or 4 speed auto into it. Im not looking for a muscle car , but I'd like to give it a little giddy-up and a v8 rumble. Also probably a good idea to convert the front brakes to discs as well. If you go you gotta stop :TU: Thanks in advance, looking forward to crusin in the sun :3gears:

I just realized from other members that this is not really a suitable platform for anything more then a stock 215 motor. No biggie , I'll just enjoy the car as it is , something very different and fun in the sun . This forum looks like a great place to be

    Cheers

    how about a turbo six?
    :Brow:
Why isn't this a suitable car to put a 350 in?

Hey man lets see some pics of it those are neat little cars! I saw one at a car show today and I'm on the same page as Steve why can't you put in a 350? It looked like it would fit in the one at the car show so I just have to ask.

    Quoting another member.
I'll post pictures as soon as it comes from CA. I would be really interested in how the 350 conversion is undertaken. Im guessing it probably requires some cutting/welding.
Steve , thats a great looking car, how involved was the motor work ? Did you do a disc conversion gotta stop if you gotta go:pp

This isn't my car. it belongs to Pat Dumaire. I'm not sure what all is involved in the swap. I'm sure it's a total drive train swap though, because of the reasons you quoted above. I'm pretty sure his car runs 10's. I have seen the engine compartment, and yes, it would be quite a cram job to get something bigger in there. I guess you can do anything, with a welder, enough time, and enough money. I have always wanted one of these with a built 350 for a driver. Would be very cool! Can't wait to see the pictures.

Pat and my dad are friends. I don't see him very often. If I can track down his email, I'll send it to you. He's a really smart guy and an excellent mechanic.
Nope, didn't make it down to that (goodguys).

Damien .integra has the bog stock 1.8L Vtec with 172hp, just a better intake and exhaust 250,000 miles original clutch, motor never been opened, still winds out to 8100rpm . Honda makes the best 4cyl motors. I drive what I want . No offense but I have no time for this rice vs domestic bs , waste of time . BTW based on the vtec hp/litre that would make the Special with a 3.2 l v6 having about 300hp. just something to think about when people bust on japanese cars . Oh I dont have any graphics on the car , I like to keep it low key when I'm on the wrong side of 100.
still waiting on the special , here 8/1 .
    Cheers :bglasses:

I would think that a 300 or 340 would fit in there nicely. Theyre just 215s with more deck height. Even the 215 manifolds would bolt on to them.

Jim Burek installed a 425 in one many years back. It can be done. Like everything else, it takes time and thought. Good luck.

    Its arrived

Well here it is as received . Guy was honest on it , the interior is boogered , the paint is crap and it does have some rust . One small rust through in front of the rear whell and the well wells also show some rust through as well . Overall a very solid unrestored car . Its starts on the dime . All I have done so far is get all the electrics functioning . Re-assembled the dash , got all the dask lights working . Changed the wheel out to one that has a functioning horn push . Bolted down the seats and put a cheap seat cover on the rear seet

All pretty easy as there isnt much to troubleshoot. Took it out for a spin rides pretty decent , the exhaust is cracked just at the flange which bolts to the rest of the exhaust. So got to look into that . I think I'll just do a temporary fix with a 2" sleeve and some clamps and adapters blah blah
Got to the get this puppy road worthy for a trip to Allen County fairgrounds to see ZZ Top on Aug 21th. Do you think they will be impressed

Decided not to take it to ZZ, something about the Missus not liking the fact there are no seat belts . I am going to fit those , no harm. Anyone know where I can get repo Buick seat belts ?
