They retired so early in their careers. Dave may be the only only one still alive. I was lucky enough to see them play live in concert around December, 1965.
Jim, I think if the DC5 had been on Ed Sullivan ahead of the Beatles, they would have conquered the music industry at the time. Their driving beat is what kids were looking for after years of Bobby Vinton et al.
Yes— I still own some of those albums bought at the time. They had a 10-12 year period of existence for the band. They quit while they were still big time. Dave went into the business side of the music industry. My only chance to see them in person locally was in 1965.
In the 60s I saw the Shirelles perform live at a local nightclub called the Cats Eye. Back then, groups that you might not expect played nightclubs. We saw Chuck Berry, the Four Tops, Frankie Valli, Jackie Wilson, Chuck Jackson, Fats Domino, Ricky Nelson, Sonny Turner and the Platters and so many more, play in clubs.
