...nice doo-wop version of Orbison's song, which he covered a year later. Orbison is credited with Velvets record contract... ...good Christmas album for those of us liking Spector's "Wall of Sound." For collectors, original '63 release was "A Christmas Gift for You From Philles Records"... ...and gotta mention vid with "Hi De Ho" man Cab Calloway and the incomparable Nicholas Bros, who were on par with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson...
I saw Jackie Wilson sing in person many times. He and Fats Domino both wore a lot of big diamond rings. Jackie danced and twirled when he sang while Fats sat at the piano and played. I always thought Jackie could sling one of those rings off into the crowd during a twirl.
...Beach Boys '64 California car-themed Christmas song "Little Saint Nick"... ...and for balance, a little Clyde McPhatter-era Drifters '54 doo-wop "White Christmas"...
I saw Barbara Lewis perform in person in the late 60s at a club in South Pines called The Glitz which was an old movie theater.
