An unusal dealer promo - a Buick telephone: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0383975745&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT
That is cool! I'll bet he's a few years off on his guess of the age of it. I would put money on it being a 75 production with 76 bicentennial being when they were used as a promotional item.
Googled it In the early to mid 1970's, the phone making company American Telecommunications Corporation (ATC) had a line of novelty phones called the Deco-Tel line. One of the more popular phones of this line was the Candlestick phone. The phone sometimes used Western Electric parts, sometimes Automatic Electric parts depending on who was selling it. Even though it looks classic, it does have modern componentry so that the sound is good and dialing is smooth.: I would guess 1976 also
>>Wish I could but I'm in the middle of making some other Buick parts purchases so I will not be bidding.
its for the Spirit Of America cars in 76, ive seen them with chevy and pontiac logos..somewhere i saw a history on them, and they where released for the 76 cars....im not sure but it makes sense to me..
I thought about it for a second. I don't have any place to put it and I'm not sure that a rotary phone would work with a modern phone system. In '76 everything came out in red white and blue or some other patriotic theme. Americans still had pride in America and with the bicentennial you couldn't stock enough of that type of stuff. 200th birthdays are not something that happen all the time!
My Father had one of those on his desk for a few years...it disappeared during a move..my guess is MOM sold it in a yard sale prolly for .25! :ball: Anyway, I'm bidding to replace it for dad. It will just suddenly SHOW UP on his desk someday..we'll see how long it takes him to realize its there!! That should be fun! Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Probably would. My 91 year old Mother still has a rotary phone in the kitchen that works. And there are touch tone phones in other areas of the house. Always throws me off on those rare times I pick it up to make a call. I remember I used to be able to dial it with hardly looking at one time. That would be cool if you could surprise your Dad with that Wheelz. Good luck!
THANQ Guys! fyi..my grandpa, worked at Buick Motor Division back in the late 40's. I remember they lived on COURT STREET somewhere in Flint...My dad and I, once every two years or so, drove up to the "presidential lot" when the new cars driven by Buick executives, were to be sold before they were 6 months old...and we bought a new/old Buick for cheap, with very little mileage in most cases. Grandad later moved onto leadership - management at AC Spark plug division just as the TORNADO of TORNADOS wipped out most of Flint..1951-52 maybe?? I have grandads old EXECUTIVE Buick and A/C Spark Plug tie clips from that era... Anyway, the last Buick we got from that Presidential lot was a triple green 59 Invicta convertible. I LOVED those fins!!! Oh well...sorry to ramble. I could write all day about this stuff. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
We have the exact phone at my mother's home; been in the bar since new (76). Still works. Any sticker can be applied to the phone number pad of the dial....
....sure does work. We have a 1920 and 1935 vintage phone in our home for fun; love them. They have 1975 guts....
