I found (by way of a co-worker) a rather cool resource. A guy in TN has written a Bible software package and enhanced it quite a bit over the past few years. When you download it, it comes with the KJV, but he also has tracked down many different translations in English as well as other languages. A great majority of those translations are free for the downloading. At least (and likely only) one must be purchased through the publisher. The software is FREE. It is a 16MB download, so be aware. I used to use Thophilis (?). I found E-Sword a few years ago,and have not looked back since.To me it is the most superior computer bible out there that is free.Although I did pay to buy the NASB version from the Lockman Foundation.I use mostly the NASB because it is translated straight from the Hebrew Greek Aramaic languages of the original text.I like the King James,but to me I can understand the NASB better. I like all the modules and bibles that you can add to it.By far it is the best program out there.I thought about the new Luminari bible or whatever it is that cam out early last year,but it is from the NIV.The NIV is owned by Rupert Murdoch and has been edited to be poloitically correct,and has even left some verses out. My son asked me the other night if the Holy Spirit helped God create the earth,and I told him yes.I grabbed the only bible around which happened to be NIV.It was left by my wife when she moved out.I was quite disappointed when I read hin Gen 1:26 and 27,instead of God created man,the NIV states "God created people." I definitely do not want to be in someones shoes on judgement day. Sorry about the ramble,E-Sword rocks.
Kase, I was kind of surprised when I read through the Modern KJV (one of the available translations with e-Sword) that it wasn't that hard of a read. It had none of the "thee"s and "Thou"s, just relatively straight English. As for the NIV, there is the NIV and then there is the TNIV, which they tried to make "gender neutral" or something like that. The NIV proper (see http://www.ibs.org/niv for how it reads) does not mess with it. NIV: 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." The TNIV states for the same verse: 26 Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, [a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground." and has other PCisms. I like the NIV but have issues with the TNIV. Regardless, neither of these two versions are available for e-Sword. I haven't figured out which translation I will ultimately land on with e-Sword, but it is a cool program.
I actually have 10 different translations for my E-Sword.I know I am going to end up adding more to it before I am done. Analytical Literal translation 1901 American standard version 1965 Bible in basic english Contemporary english version KJV with Strongs numbers Modern KJV Messionic renewed covenant New American Bible with Apocrypha NASB NASB with Strongs numbers Sometimes I just like to compare the different versions.Like to make sure that I fully understand what the verse is telling me.Not too strong with bible study though,really need to discipline myself in that area. As for the NIV and TNIV,I am sure there are differences,but the bible I was reading from lthe other night,it was an NIV.It is the only type of bible my wife would buy.I pointed out many things in it that were quite PC.In the NIV you will not find the word fornicate in it.Older versions may have it,but in the last few years,it has been removed. LOL,my wife had to go out to her car and get her sons bible to find a non NIV version.Her and her sister had me on the phone late one night while we were dating,because her sister was divorced and since she could not find fornicate in the NIV,she thought she could go out and have sex.She new that adultery was in there,but she was no longer married and adultery was only about marriage.She was bummed when she read my step sons KJV and found fornicte in there. What some people will do to get around God's laws are just too funny.
