Allright, after much reading and some enlightening, i have realized that the COPO Chevelle's came with the 14x7 5 spoke ss wheel and the Yenko came with rallye wheels with the top hat center peice and beauty rings, but could you order a COPO Chevelle with body matching painted steel wheels and poverty caps? i have read that you could get the COPO Camero with the steel wheels and poverty caps, help a brother out.

I don't think you could do steelies on a COPO Chevelle...15x7s came on the cars with the added COPO 9737, but I believe just straight COPO 9561 cars got the 14x7 SS wheels. George Lyons used to have a super-rare 9561 Chevelle that snuck through with the Malibu exterior trim, and even it had the 14x7 SS wheels...

I'll try and dig through my COPO build documents and confirm this...

No problem...btw, did you end up building a post car like you were kicking around (if my memory is correct)? I think you'll love that color...

Hmm...under the COPO 9737 build info, it shows the deduction of the dog dish cap and the addition of the 15x7 rally cap/ring, but doesn't show a designation of "Camaro only" like it does with some of the "Chevelle only" pieces...so maybe you could get a dog dish on a Chevelle? :Do No:

Wow, thanks for the information. When i think COPO, i just think of option 9565. I did not know if when you ordered a COPO Chevelle, that the base model was either a 300 deluxe or a malibu? With your preference of manual or automatic trans, bench or buckets, malibu trim, three different wheel options and so on. I have read numerous articles, Pete Simpsons, being one of the featured cars, and it gave all of the COPO options, I just never knew if steel wheels and poverty caps was one of the options. thanks, Tim:TU:

Actually, there was *not* a choice...the internal COPO build literature specifically states "13637 only" (2 door Chevelle sport coupe, Malibu)...the 300 Deluxe was only available on a post car (13427/13437, 2 door coupe, Chevelle). The COPO Chevelles are SS396 cars chassis/body wise with the "SS" ornamentation replaced with the "Malibu" markings and the 427 added...the chassis/drivetrain & exterior trim components were predefined by the Central Office.

No problem, but we should remember to "never say never" with these old cars...like the COPO Chevelle w/Malibu exterior trim, wasn't supposed to happen but somehow it did! Folks have dug into this on the Camaros, but few seem to give a rip about us Chevelle guys! LOL!! And speaking of which, where's COPO Pete, he could probably shed some light on all of this...

Anyway, I still can't confirm/deny the wheel thing on a Chevelle...and since a dog dish & an SS wheel are physically the same there shouldn't be an advantage with either, and I'm not sure anyone could say 100% "those ain't right"...but what do I know, I'm just some dumb hillbilly!

I am looking forward to seeing the pictures...that color on a Camaro is sweet, but I bet it's better on an A-body! :TU:
