What exactly is the core support? Is it the part that cradles the radiator only, or does it also include the left and right sections which house the headlights? The pasenger side on my '72 electra is rusted part way through due to an overcharged battery, basically there is no metal around the main mounting bumper there. This looks like an important fastener, and an area not easily repaired. I called a few yards and could get one for around $100, not sure what the shipping cost would be or what it includes exactly. It looks like the support is made up of three pieces tack welded together. If that's the case, can I just buy the one section I need from the yard and tack it on? This would save on shipping costs, etc. Thanks.

Buick's include the headlight buckets and are complicated. It you can find a whole one in tact I think you will make a mistake by not buying and shipping all of it. Either way you are going to buy all of it and the difference is just the shipping.

The core support holds the radiator, headlamps + supports the hood latch, spaces the fenders up front, holds the horns and a few other functions. If you can get a nice one for $100.00 ... go for it. It may be just as bad as yours, as, these cars are prone to corrosion. Try to get a picture of what they would be sending.

Good info, thanks. I like the idea on getting a picture. The place in AZ I called said "sure, we got one, where do you want it sent?" No info on the condition...

    or....

Rather than spend a couple of hundred dollars (or more) on a replacement, you might want to try and repair the one you have. When it comes down to it, its just flat sheetmetal with a couple of bends in it. Once the battery tray and battery get mounted, it will probably cover most of the repair. If the mount area is rotted as well, maybe you could adapt some parts of Mike Garrison's 70-72 GS core support repair kit. Think back to your high school metal shop days for inspiration
