I'm trying to ship an aluminum core support. But I'm having difficulty finding A box large enough to put it in. Anyone have experience on shipping them. If so do you think making a wooden casing would be better than a box.
Got to any appliance store and get a refrigerator box. Cut it down to size and fit it to the core support. Ship the box by Greyhound.
Terrance go to a large auto body shop and see if they have any boxes. they tend to have larger boxes if they replace bumper skins or large body panels. :beer
Go down to your local Home Depot, and purchase a 5lb box of 2.5" drywall screws, a few sheets of 5/8" plywood and a bunch of 2x4's. Build a sturdy wooden crate, with lots of reinforcements. Use lots of padding - Old newspapers, pieces of cardboard, etc. I wouldn't trust a part as valueable as this to a paltry cardboard container. Also, if the sides are covered with plywood, the package handlers wouldn't know what's in it, and it would at least help to keep an "honest" theif honest. Good Luck.
I would highly recommend Greyhound. I've shipped core supports, fenders, you name it. As long as it'll fit under the bus and weighs less than 100 lbs., they'll ship it.
Thanks to all that responded I've looked into getting boxes from local body shops. and furniture stores. All seemed to throw theres away daily. It has rained here in the houston area for days now. So water soaked boxes are the norm. Making a crate from home depot sounds interesting and challenging all at the same time.being that I have three of them.
