GENTLEMEN; HAPPY NEW YEAR! I AM IN DIRE NEED OF AN ALUMINUM DRIVE-SHAFT FOR FOLLOWING COMBO; 1987 BUICK REGAL (Special-T non-turbo) BUICK455 V8/TH400 SHORT-TAIL 3-SPEED/BUICK GN 10-BOLT POSI REAR. PRESENTLY IN CAR 1987 OLDS 307/200R4/7-5.8" LIMITED SLIP 308 REAR. FROM '97-'02, IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN USED A DRIVE-SHAFT FROM A '68 CAMARO/TH400(?), AND UNFORTUNATELY 4ME THAT MY FRIEND THAT HOOKED-ME-UP THE 1ST TIME (PUERTO-RICAN-MIKE ... that told me over the phone in '97 ... LAUGHING that he had 2 different drive-shafts from the late '60's that fit my type combo) IS NO LONGER AROUND. TODAY, I LOOKED INTO AN ALUMINUM D-SHAFT FROM JEG'S FOR A '87 BUICK GN ... AND USE THE (aluminum) TH400 YOKE (added expense). I UNDERSTAND THAT THE GN USES THE "200" TRANNY AND I HAVE THE "400" TRANNY (as the both are @ same overall length ... from '97-'02, I also used the TH2004r cross-member w/TH400 tranny mount/TH400 s-tail-3-speed). I THINK IS WAS SOMETHING @ 51"-53" LONG DRIVESHAFT????ou: PL-EEEASE-HELP!!!!!
Where are you located? You can get one custom made easily. Henderson in Westlake Ohio made mine. It's their pro-street version and is indestructible.
If I understand you correctly, the only thing that's requiring the driveshaft length to be shorter is that you mentioned using the GN rearend. The difference in length between the 8.5" and 7 5/8" rear at the pinion, is the 8.5" is approximately .99" shorter. Anytime a GN/T-type or 442 gets parted out, we tend to hang on to the driveshaft and sell it as a package deal.
Thanks, Stew. I hear you on the G-body Olds/442 rear/driveshaft deal. Thanks for the assistance/time. I am going with Jeg's GN aluminum driveshaft (with TH400 yoke). By-the-by; Have you checked out my Cold-Air System pics in the Vendor's Section (... prototype. The actual Systems are being fabricated of aluminum as we speak) for Big-Block Regals? :TU:
