I installed the wrong color carpet in my 1971 GS with Sandlewood interior several years ago and want to get the right color now. So, what is the correct color carpet for my interior? I'll probable buy the correct 80/20 loop carpet from ACC or one if their vendors. Here's what I have now.
Yup, 80/20 loop would be the OE.. and Ray, go to the ACC website, there is a form where you can fill out, and they will send you carpet samples.. they make many colors, and none of them are "dead on" to what the OE color was, but there are some that are so close most folks won't tell. I never owned one, but that was a common interior color on many skylarks that I parted out in the yards years ago, I recall the carpet being very close to the same color as the dash. IN the 80/20 loop section, I think 531 saddle is the color your after, but I would want to have a sample first... also, this whole cut and sewn carpet with them is new, I don't recall it, but if it was done to make it fit better, then buy it.. their molded stuff fits like dog doo-doo.. used to plan a whole day to put that carpet in those cars, to make it look right. In fact I went to carpet offered by Trim products in the last few restos we did.. it just fit a ton better. Anyway, good luck JW
Thanks, Jim. I kind of thought it might be 519, Fawn but will request samples of both. Who is Trim Products? Are they still in business?
My '69 Skylark had carpeting that was just a little darker than the seats, but still light. The dash was also Sandlewood as well as the steering wheel and column. The carpeting on the kick panels matched the floor. It looked pretty much like this, except the year is different. The first picture shows pretty much how my dash and seats looked. The second picture is pretty much like how the seats and carpet looked . Lou
I doubt it is saddle. Saddle was used in Saddle cars! I have a 71 Dealers Book with samples of all trim and carpet. I will look later and tell you exactly what is correct and not guessing.
Here you go. Official Buick name for your carpet is Medium Sandlewood as you can see under the vinyl sample. Color is listed as the same in all trim levels
Now I just have to ask. Is your car original bucket seat car? My sales book only shows three colors available with buckets in 71. Pearl White, Saddle and Black? What is your trim number on tag?
There is a hand written note in book tha says Sandlewood not available on Custom bench with no armrest until 4/5/71 but says nothing about buckets.
You're very observant. I call my car "one of none" since, as you mention, buckets were not available in Sandlewood. My original interior, before it was changed many years ago by a previous owner, was code 165, Pearl buckets. When I bought it, it had a complete Sandlewood interior (except for the wrong carpet) including the deluxe power bench with the fold-down arm rest. The interior was so nearly perfect that I decided to just remove the Sandlewood front bench and have Legandary make me a custom set of front bucket upholstery and I bought a pair of bucket seat frames to install it on. My car is a very late '71 (June). Thanks for the pics from your trim book. The medium Sandlewood carpeting is what I expected would be correct. ACC has a nearly perfect match which they call Fawn Sandlewood #519. Thanks again.
I'd be glad to sell it. It's only been in the car for about a year and 1/2 and still looks brand new. Is your car a floor shift with console? PM me and we can talk further.
My 71 has a sandalwood interior. I think "fawn" is what the current manufacturers call it these days. Your seatbelts are medium sandalwood so you have a sample right there. Are you going to repaint the column too?
Actually, I already had the column and the console painted. I wanted it to match the upholstery but the shop that painted them made them too light. After I install the correct carpet I may repaint them both but, haven't decided yet.
The second pic in LouV's post is actually from my old car. Original bench seat column shift in Sandalwood. Carpet was from Legendary. Interior paint was from.....can't remember. Sent them an under column trim plate as a sample & received 6 spray cans. I had posted the mix here a few years ago, it may still be here & you might try to search it. More than a few here used the same company. Their site listed all the colours & sheens on different interior surfaces based on the TR ## from the cowl plate.
