1) Silver cad on the throttle cable bracket 2) Gray Phosphate on the lower hood latch pivot 3) Gray Phosphate on the Alternator adjuster bracket 4) Black on the air cleaner hold up bracket that mounts to thermostat housing
I say gray phosphate on the throttle bracket. Never seen one silver cad. I have NOS Hood latch bracket with handle attached and it is black phosphate. Duane says you cannot always go by NOS as assembly line may have been different but it is black at least and not paint. Has rougher texture. 70-72 magazine pictures I have clearly show gray phosphate alternator brace.
there is a place in bridgeport conn, that i am going cant remember the name off hand.i see duane is keeping quiet.....duane you are more then welcome to put in your 2 cents on this subjectray:
Dreesh, I have the 72 CARS GS car of the year issue and the engine picture clearly shows the brace Gray in the Black and white picture compared to the other under hood black stuff.
I'd like to jump in and ask about a couple of finishes as well. I searched most of the threads and pics, but I'm not really sure I'm finding what I need. The bolts holding the hood to the hinges and the bolts holding the hinges to the fenders. It appears in some of the pics I've found that they're like the other fender bolts. Sort of blackish/gray with the phosphate coating look. That sound right?
I have some originals and they vary from different shades of gray. Not really black however. They are very dull with no shine.
Excellent, thanks guys. I've had decent luck with spraying the POR15 chassis black thinned out. I soak the bolts first in the metal-prep which leaves behind a zinc coating. They end up on the dull side with the rough finish on them. My goal is to have the coating tough enough for assembly without chipping. We'll see how it goes.
Oops I see you mean the finish on their bolts. There is a phosphate paint made by OEM paints but costs $50 for a stinking can.
I believe Eastwood makes a spray can but double check. Also double check me on the AMK finish code. The best solution is to purchase new AMK bolts.
if anybody knows gary steele,he has two unmolested 72 cars(which im sure if he,s not too busy)he can post pictures of the lower hood latches.this way we can put this one to bed.o No: ...please....gary help us fanatics out!!!
