Could you get a Tach on 66-67 GS with bench seat 4-speed? I was wondering if a tach was available when you ordered a 66-67 GS with a bench seat and a 4-speed?if so where was it mounted? Thanks
I believe those were optional and called "knee knockers" because they sat near the bottom of the dash and your knee could contact them.
Do you know where exactly they were mounted?is there somewhere where i can see or take a measurement? Thanks
From the ones I saw at a show, I believe it was just to the righ of the steering column and above the gas pedal. I am sure someone here has an original and can give you its location.
yea i seen those on chevelles but remember the ignition key on those are up top rather than on the bottom like Buicks? Thanks
I Have a 66 GS order form . It shows the tach only available with operating console w/bucket seats or consolette w/ buckets.
I don't know squat about the '66, but in my 1965 Buick repair manual I have for my Skylark, there is an illustration of an accesory tach installation under the dash showing the general location and wiring. I installed my tach this way 'cause I had the bezel/cup mounted tach already and I didn't want to put the tach in the console. I can get the exact page number later tonight when I get home if it would help. Maybe also take a shot of the page and the tach in my car?
Yea i would appreciate that, but there had to have been a way to get a tach with a bench seat `66 GS and 4-speed?hopefully a `66 guru can chime in or Duane might know? Thanks
It's not listed as a regular production option, but if you walked into a Buick dealership in 1966, bought a bench seat 4 speed car and told them you wanted a tach....I'm sure the dealership would install it for you.... :Smarty: The big question is...what are you buying now George???? :Brow:
Hey Walt, besides the big question, the biggest question is where would it be placed if you wanted a tach?did they have the dog dish caps in `66? Thanks
Sorry for the delay, here are pics of the manual showing insallation of tach and the tach in the car. The tach is mounted to the left of the center console, it is a better location for visibility as my knee would keep me from seeing it if it were mounted where the manual shows it. They also show a tab/bracket that the tach mounts to, I just cut and bent some scrap meetal I had in the garage, it's ugly but it works. The important thing is that it is fastened well as the tach is grounded through the mount.
Oh ok so it goes under the dash,i thought it goes on the face surface of the dash between the key and the ashtray? Thanks
