    Cowl seal question. **update**

Hey guys/gals, I finally got my hood lined up perfectly only to have it sticking up in the back after i installed the cowl seal. Will it crush down or do I need to look for a better seal. This one is Metro #CS5
    Thanks

I have seen the same thing on an Olds--the repro cowl seals seem to be made of a "too dense" rubber and they don't compress enough. They seem to be solid rubber vs. the closed cell foam like the originals. You can sometimes find nice originals.

Please look at your Metro piece closely and give us a report--is it a solid rubber or is it closed cell foam--you can tell by looking at the end of it where it is cut.

My "Metro" door weather strips did not allow my doors to close with just one push at first, the doors would just bounce and half lock. Once I let the car sit for a day with the doors fully closed the strips must have formed in shape and now my doors close perfectly again with one push...

Give it a chance to form and see if it gets better.

Its a crummy picture but it looks like foam to me. Which way does the opening in the bottom face? Maybe its in backwards. The doors seem to be getting a little better after almost a day of being installed, so far the hood is still sticking up way to high

    Same deal?

    I have the same problem.
I had the rubber seal and it was making the hood raise up on the drivers side.
Still have not figured out why. I ordered the foam seal but have not installed it yet.
Without the cowl seal the hood appears to be adjusted perfectly.
The door seals compressed nicely after a few days but the cowl seal does not look like it will work?

Let me know if you solve this problem.

    Matt:
I had a similar problem with my Metro trunk weather stripping. I pruchased everything thru a vendor at a swap meet. Upon installation, the trunk would hardly close. Left it closed for weeks, but the lid still was higher than the body.I contacted Metro directly by e-mail, explaining my delema. They got back to me, and indicated that I may have received the wrong weather strip.as there were different ones. Took my name and address, and sent me out the right piece, at no charge. You may want to run it by them and see if you could have th same problem with your cowl seal. Worth a try. I swear by Metro over all others.

    Tom,
Ill try calling them, the package indicates its correct but l will call anyway. Its been over a week and its still sticking up. The doors on the other hand are like butter. Haven't been real worried about it, many other project to keep myself busy.

    It works!!

I called Metro and they weren't much help, although they did tell me I can return it anytime no questions asked. I ordered a new one from Soffseal and was given the option of rubber or sponge, I chose sponge as well as metal clips vs. plastic. They seem to be thinner. The Soffseal is much softer (go figure) and slightly smaller. The Metro one looks like better quality and certainly looks better installed, but its too big!! Soffseal now installed the hood closes perfect.
    Thanks for all your advise.
