I think there is a company that repros those. Don't know how good they are. Maybe somone here knows them. I think I remember they were in England. Try a google search. You will need correct rivets as well. Many people blast these which takes the sharp edge of the digits.

I am pretty Sure there is a website called "trimtag.com" They can make copies of your original. Not cheap though.

As Head Judge of the BPG meet (as well as others...) I would rather see your crappy, beat-up, nasty looking ORIGINAL trim tag than a perfect "reproduction" tag.

Just my .02 and no, we won't deduct any points for said original tag.

Also, I believe either raw metal or painted black like the cowl are accepted. So paint it to mask the major blemishes/staining.

Do you deduct points for the repop tag? How different are they?

    Matt,
I don't think we ever deducted any points for a repro tag, but from what I have heard the repro's are made out of steel, while the originals were made out of aluminum.

I would be more worried about a repro tag putting up a "red flag" to a prospective buyer, as many people buy the tags to change interior and exterior color combinations.

PS. We do not use magnets when judging the cars, but a buyer might.

    Duane,
My judging question was just out of curiosity as I will never have my car judged (I'm way too sensative). I do however need a new tag, spent a small fortune replacing a rusty cowl and the tag sticks out like a sore thumb. I heard the aluminum/steel thing before so I asked trimtags.com about it earlier today and this was his response
I do NOT know where you got that information. ALL TRIM TAGS except Corvettes were made of ALUMINUM. Corvette Trim Tags satrating in 1968 were made of magnetized Stainless Steel. Your tag will be exactly like your original. Take a magnet to it and you will see it is aluminum. It will NOt adhere to the magnet. These tags have ben on cars since 1987. I have NEVER EVER heard that comment before. Someone has it mixed up with a Vette Trim Tag in 1969.
Of course I mixed it up and said originals were steel and his were aluminum but he did use the word exactly so well see. I plan to keep the original tag so that when the car sells (during my estate sale) the new owner can do what they want with it. I'll post some pics when it comes

    Matt,
If the repro's are aluminum, then I see no issues as far as judging goes, even for the most "picky" of judges.

I wouldn't mess with it personally. Mine is missing a corner from corrosion, it got painted with the top part of the cowl (yes, way too neat, sorry Duane!! ) but no way am I gonna replace it.

At the very least, make sure to keep the original so you can show anyone who might be interested in buying it (I never plan on selling either but sometimes things happen).
