I keep seeing a listing for crank scrapers on ebay. The idea behind them is to keep oil from the sump from splashing up on the crank and rods, thereby reducing drag on these parts and increasing effective power. Has anyone had any experience with these things or heard anything (pro or con)? I'm switching out a Rover 215 block for a Buick 215. The Rover had a windage tray in the sump which appears to do about the same thing as the crank scraper, but the Buick block doesn't have the lugs cast into it to accept the tray. Wondering if it's worth the $60 to put the crank scraper in.

    gotbuick What, me worry?

I put one in. No dissappointments.

The scraper will drop the pan slightly, and create a gap on both ends of the pan. Make sure to have a can of "the right stuff" or a similiar RTV type sealer. Before you tighten the pan down, rotate the crank for clearance of the scraper.

Take your time, you should be fine. :)

the crank scraper is used to remove extra oil from the crank a windage tray keeps oil from being pu by the sping crank from the sump.
