I can certainly understand that. I'm considering something very similar for my Buick, however it will definitely be taken on road trips so I was kind of curious.

the last motor had a stock ls6 cam, this new motor has a much larger cam and we made the fueling alot more agressive to how it tips in when it see's boost...if your wanting mpg's it can definetely get much better than whatever i end up with lol

with a turbo you dont need a big cam but i wanted the "muscle car" sound that the last motor didnt have

I know what you mean. I had a truck with a really nice sounding 383 in it. Grew up around big block chevelles. I love that sound. Even just a _little_ lope would be nice :)

well converter will be here tuesday, and trans will be here sometime early next week as well. If everything goes right ill be at the 1/8 mile on friday to see how much the tighter converter either helped, or hurts the cars ET.

If it doesnt slow down , ill be at bowling green saturday to figure out gas mileage and hopefully get that 9 sec pass...finally

Hi there, please post the specs on your converter. I am about to swap a 4L80E into my Skylark and I just ordered a converter from Hughes. It was $1000 but I got it for $750 with the "turbo forums" discount. So if you have not already joined that forum be sure you do as there are a lot of great people and vendors on there.

Idk the exact specs on my converter as far as the internals go, but it's a circle-d billet triple disc lolockup I was on that forum several years ago when I had the blow through procharger but its been a while, and yes tons of great info

this new converter is ALOT tighter down low, before I could footbrake 3500 and now barely 2500, but on the Trans brake I can still get over 5000 for a hard launch.

im getting this car more into street driving which is why I tightened it up so much. I know I'll lose some et but it drives so much nicer on the street now. Most of the time I don't even go back down to 1st gear when I stop and just drive it like a PG. Makes the turbo make cool noises lol

Thanks for the info, sounds like a similar converter to mine. How are you controlling the shifting? Manual valve body or computer? I am using a ECM set up with push button shifting so it a manual shifted from the steering wheel. I will still use the column shifter to select drive or reverse and then manual shift up and down from there... With the 3.42 gear it shoudl have some long legs on the highway.

Cool, should be a fun ride! If I do another turbo car I will use a LS engine for sure! The only thing keeping me from doing it right now is the fact that I have my turbo system right how I want it for the Buick 350 and I have 15 spare 350s here... If I started with a fresh build though it would be a 6.0 for sure.

Yeah the 455 is a terrible design.

its not bad imo for stockish type stuff, but def not high hp

if they just had the bores thick from top to bottom it would be awesome...and no matter how fast i go with this new setup, itll never beat the instant response of the 462 procharged engine with over 700ftlbs at 3k rpm

I am on board.....have decided this last 455 buick build is probably my last.....at least for my hardtop (will probably always stay BBB in the convertible).......but in the HT will switch over to LS with my next build. You can't beat the power, mileage, and platform durability...

As the supplies of 455 blocks get more scarce, it is almost a shame to use them for racing. I would feel no guilt whatsoever in exploding my LQ9. However, it just seems to keep on taking it. :)

just been enjoying it a 4am when i get off work and its nice out...i know the new converter will slow it down in et, i kinda dont want to know how much lol. made a pull in mexico and went 145 in 3rd but i dont know at what rpm, just know i didnt hit the limiter[/SUB]

not much to talk about really...this new converter is a ton tighter foot braking, like 2500-2600 tops and it just wont leave hard at that rpm compared to the previous converter that stalled 3600. Best foobrake with this converter is 10.7 compared to 10.01 with the previous one.

Now on the trans brake it leaves a lot harder...but i dont have the suspension to hook the radials launching at anything higher than 3500 rpm.

Next weekend I will be at BG for my last track outing of the year...this time im pulling out 15 degrees while on the 2step when foobraking to try and make it leave harder. Today in the garage I tried it out and at 2300rpm it went from 5psi to 8 psi, before i could get 9 psi at 2600 so if that goes to 12-13 with the timing taken out hopefully thatll help get it moving.

Also going to take it from 13-14 degrees of timing in boost back up to 17 degrees.

Might also put a bigger nitrous jet in it and atleat hit 140 mph even if it doesnt ET, atleast 140 will meet one of my goals.

Aaaaaand if im lucky ill be able to borrow some slicks as a last ditch effort and make it try and leave off the trans brake at 5000 rpm and full boost....i have the power for 9's and my 3950 weight, just not traction at this point.

    No luck on getting some 29.5 x 12.50's like I wanted to...hopefully some 28 x 10.5's will help out

And I have some crazy friends...looks like this lil turbo will get turned all the way up and maxed out boost and power wise tomorow...don't have high hopes for the motor staying together lol but if it does it should see atleast 145 mph
