Ok this may be a silly question but I have to ask. I have a 70 Skylark Custom convertible. It has the cruise master box under the hood. My question is how do I work the cruise? Did all cars have these? Or has someone switched the steering column? I just don't see any knobs, levers, or buttons to operate the cruise.

    Thanks

The button to activate it is in the end of the turn signal lever.

It is not there either. I am now assuming that the column was change out at one time. Which was my first guess.

Perhaps or they changed the lever to non cruise and left the wiring in the column. When activated thare is a "Cruise " lamp that lights in the dash.

I will check into that theory in the daylight. Thanks Jim

I thought the cruise lever was on the plate next to the clock (where the defroster switch would be)? :Do No:

Sorry, I guess if my car had one, I'd know better.

Sorry, only the 'ON' indicator is in that spot :error:

Check with Chris Lott (send him a PM), as this is/was his 1971 below...

The cruise light indicating cruise is "on" is located in the dash filler plate to the right of the clock/tach space. I think you are confusing the switch location since you can have rear defrost, cruise, top up/down switch all in the same plate.

The cruise switch is located in the end of the turn signal lever and has "CRUISE" embossed on the lever.

It sounds like someone started a cruise installation or had one and it did not work and left it on the car.

I have a light (looks to be green) below the up/down switch for the top. Is there an easy way to see if the column was switched or as Jim suggested just the lever was switched?
    Thanks

    Column will be the same.
You need to look at the base of the instrument cluster, just
to the left of the column for a small plastic plug that has a 3 contact receptacle. That is the socket that the turn signal wire plugs into for the cruise set-up. If it is there, then you just need a new or replacement turn signal lever w/cruise switch.
If you can take some dig pics, I can tell you what is there and what is missing.

    Need pics of:
rear of intake, driver's fenderwell, brake switch above brake
pedal, throttle connection on carb, firewall near booster where
    main wiring harness passes through.

    Green light is correct.

I don't have a camera so we will have to do it the hard way. From what I can see in the book on pages 65-4 and 65-5, it looks as if there is a seperate wire coming down the column for the cruise, correct? It plugs into three wires. I do not have a seperate wire coming down the column, however I have a plug with 3 wires just hanging there (green, brown, and red). Looks to be going back into the fire wall. The wiring on this car is all hacked up, and this also happens to be my weakest point in working on cars.
    Thanks

Looks like all you need is the turn signal cruise lever.

Thanks for all the help George. I finally got this car running and am trying to work out the little stuff now.

    Thanks to everyone else also.
