    Hey guys-
Has anyone purchased the aftermarket shaft system that has "Buick" on the tape door?....Year One sells it, as does Custom AutoSound. There is also a CD player option for the trunk, which is controlled by the head unit I believe, and is wired, not over a FM band.....I'd rather do a clean stereo unit with shafts than cut up a virtually perfect interior that is original (even with 125K)......also-its a convertable, so I am looking at the pods for the kick panels now on the market by these guys, as well as the dash replacement speakers for the single mono factory unit......has anyone tried the head unit/cd or speakers? Good sound, quality?
    thx-

Put this system with just AM/FM radio and the CD changer in the trunk in Shari's 1970 GS and we really like it. Found out why the regular FM radio did not work well in the installation. The antenna cable from the windshield had a poor connector, rendering it basically usless.

After finding a decent splice it works much better than expected now.

CD player is great for the drive to the Nats so you do not have to worry about finding and losing stations along the way.

    Dave,
Just so you know, that radio is actually a KENWOOD unit!:Smarty:

Custom Autosound buys the radios from Kenwood, and then "customizes" them (with the "Buick" script on the door, instead of the "Kenwood" script, for example), and then they mark it up another $100.:spank::shock:

So, if You Order that same radio from Year One,
Year One will Order it from Custom Autosound,
and Custom Autosound has to Order it from KENWOOD!

The end result is that you pay $200 for a $100 radio!:Dou:

Just go buy a Kenwood radio from your local Kenwood Dealer!
It's the SAME THING, except you'll get it for 1/2 of what you'd get it for from Year One or Custom Autosound!

I've been installing these same radios for almost 20 Years, which is how I know, because I've found Kenwood radios to be exceptional over other brands, in my experience (and evidently Custom Autosound must think so, too, since that's what THEY use!:Smarty: )!:bglasses:

Just thought you might want to SAVE some money, unless it's not that important to you.:TU::beer

I'll even make you a better offer!

I'd be glad to HELP you DESIGN a system for your car, that will fit in your car without having to cut it up. I'd like to discuss it with you, by phone or Email, if you'd like!:beer

I didn't know Kenwood still makes a shafted radio. Last time I checked their website I didn't see any.

the stock kenwood wont fit some dashes without modifications because the shafts are too close. custom autosound re-works the shafts and on some cars uses a whole different radio housing.
they also have special nose pieces that they install to help make the radio not look as aftermarket.

ALSO ... on some of the custom autosond radio applications, the wiring has been made to plug right into the car's harness.

Eric, the point that I was trying to make is not whether Kenwood still makes a shafted radio or not.

The point that I was trying to make is that Custom Autosound or Year One are NOT the Manufacturers of the radio, they are only the Distributors (Sellers) for KENWOOD radios (with the Custom Autosound label on it)!:Smarty:
