Awesome Awesome story. I worked winter special Olympics for many years. Absolutely loved it. So did they. We could all take a great lesson from the true gratitude that some of these kids have. No political views. No other drive. Just pure gratitude. Take note people. Give a sh##!! One word you will never hear me or any of my kids or friends ever say is retard or retarded. Hate those words
Guy, thanks for posting your story. There are some fantastic programs out there making a differnce in kids lives. My brother is the executive director of a non-profit organization that utilizes the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) school to work transition model. It's the largest and longest running program of its kind found in many high schools. His staff is on site in the area high schools where the program is taught as an actual class. Provides kids guidance through graduation into entry level employment with advancement potential or into full-time college or training. Cool stuff.
Thank you everyone who has contributed to this thread, this is the kind of pure, heart warming and encouraging type topics I like to focus on through the day. Wonderful stories that I cannot help but smile and applaud y’all for : ) Continued blessings for all of you gentlemen & those you minister too in these inspiring programs : )
Mark, perfect! Give your brother a big thanks from all of us here. I'm sure Mikey (Faster) would also much appreciate his work wit JAG. That's awesome!
Thank you for doing that. So true. And totally forgot about this until you mentioned Special Olympics, but when I was around 13 - 14 years old my father MADE me and my very well athletic sisters (both won State in gymnastics and track) help organize and get involved with running a summer track and field special Olympics. Maybe that's what motivated me to what I do now? Huh!
Welp. bringing this back up since my own problems... It's been awhile. Which I think I'm over coming. Really trying at least. Good news. I am interviewing another special needs person this afternoon. Hopefully he or she starts right away. Looking forward to it and so are my employee's. I personally need this to help me as much as it helps them. Selfish thinking, I know. Wish me and he or she luck to hit it off!
Guy, thanks for being there for these kids. I was 45 when my wife and I, who were childless, started to foster children. We fostered 22 kids in 5 years before adopting the last 2, both are now 10 and doing great. Both have minor issues to deal with from their traumatic life before adaption but we wouldn't trade them for the world. Both absolutely love riding in our Wildcat with the top down
Thanks for sharing Guy, I can't think of a better way to start the day than reading something good for a change. You will be blessed for what you do and the young lady who looked at you as a Father figure is getting a better start in life thanks to you! Bob H.
