Can someone tell me if Dave is still in business. I sent 2 emails a while back so I could get the specification sheet or questionaire he uses when setting up the distributors and never heard from him. I have 2 distributors I want to get done. If he is no longer in business can someone recommend an alternative person or company I can use.

Yes, he's still doing business, but he's hard to get ahold of. I don't thing he emails very much.

He did a MSD conversion for me about a month ago, I think I have a copy of the spec sheet I got from Wizard Larry here, I'll look and see if I can find it and send it to you.

I never really talked to him before i sent my dizzy off, I just boxed it up and sent it with a MO, and it came back better than new.

    spec sheet

I have the spec sheet. Yes, Dave can be a little hard to get ahold of, but he does great work and the wait is worth it IMHO. I'll try and add it as an attachment here. See if you can download it. Right click it, and select "Save Target as"

Thanks, Larry, you beat me to it!
(and I downloaded it again, this time saving it where I'll be able to find it again.)

Thanks for the spec sheet guys. I will fill it out and get my stuff to dave as soon as I can. Wish my personal friends were as great as you board members.

One more question. Since I will using MSD 6AL I assume that I will need the trigger conversion as opposed to a full HEI conversion? I will still have to get a coil for the trigger version, right? The spec sheet seemed to state that one can get Dave's prefered coil with the full HEI and nothing with the trigger setup. i am currently running an incap HEI coil on my HEI distributor alond with the MSD box so I assume I will need to get a coil because I don't thing MSD box acts as a coil? Thanks in advance for your answers so I can buy what I need from Dave.

Yup, just get the MSD trigger, and I'd recommend Dave supplying the coil, his prices were competitive with anything locally, and I was sure of what I got.

You'll get back a distributor with non-hei cap and rotor from Dave, so you'll need some new plug wires with the points-type ends to go on the cap. I picked up a set of universal-type MSD wires for about $80 through Summit. If you have a remote/hidden MSD box, let Dave know the measurements and he'll make up an MSD cable to fit.

    Allen,
All you need is the MSD trigger conversion, and a coil. I highly recommend the MSD 8200 chrome coil. It is what I use, and Dave can supply it for you, or you can get one almost anywhere (SK speed has them, or you can order it from Jegs or Summit) Daves distributor will plug right in to the MSD connector(violet/green). You may need to buy a coil bracket to mount the coil in the stock location. The orange/black wires of the MSD go to the coil.

Actually, Allen can get the MSD 8433 small body cap from Dave. It fits the points distributor cap, and has HEI type terminals. That way he won't need to buy new wires, he will have to get a coil wire though.

Dave just posted over at Thunder. He has been having health problems due to an old war wound and says he'll be back up to speed real soon. :3gears:

His advice to the masses is not to get shot. :TU:

Wow, I didn't know there was such a thing, and didn't think to ask.

Oh well, I *needed* fancy new MSD wires anyway. :Brow:

James, it's in the spec sheet, another 20.00 though. And it's red, so it doesn't look stock. But, if your wires are good, it pays, better than buying new wires.

Thanks Larry, I will go for the small points type cap and the NAPA? coil that Dave can supply. I want to keep it low key under the hood, no flashy images under the hood except for the MSD box and the aluminum heads :Brow: My whole game plan is to have a sleeper image: stock buick rims, a "points (HEI in disguise)" distibutor, and with the gs113a cam a lope that too many people I run into mistake for a car that needs a serious tune up. I love when people ask me whats wrong the engine in my '70 cutlass with the engle 22-25 cam. To them its on its last leg.

    what timing to tell Dave

Oops sorry guys, one more ques. I need to know what timing specs I should give to Dave for setting up the small body hei. Motor is 455 with gs113a cam and TA ported aluminum stage 1 heads (312 intake and 210 or something exhaust, basically same specs that were reported when the heads were 1st reviewed). I will be using ported performer intake, TA rollers rockers and headers. Tranny is a super t10 with 2:88 1st gear. I want to install 3:08's in the rear so I can cruise hwy and use tranny for getting the rpm's going. OK so how much initial, mechanical, and total advance should I be using for my setup? Please I'm looking for solid answers and not just guesses from similar combos or someone who has experience with motor timing combos, thanks.

    Allen,
There is no way anyone will tell you what timing your motor will want. You really have to find that out for yourself. A dyno session or careful testing at the track can tell you alot. That being said, a modified BBB likes 12* or more initial, and 30-36* total, all in at 2500 RPM or less. What to tell Dave? I would ask for 12* initial +20* mechanical + 8-10* vacuum advance. This way, you can adjust your total advance by moving the initial timing up. You could start with 12* initial, and you'd have 32 total. Move the initial to 14*, and now you have 34*, or 16 and 36. The total timing that gives you the best trap speed tells you what timing produces the best HP. That might be different than what you would run on the street. So, my advice is to ask for 20* mechanical advance. That gives you the most flexibility, IMHO.
