Same David Gramlow that wrote Hemmings Muscle Machines? Question was: TIME FOR AN ANSWER I am the technical advisor for T/A Performance in Scottsdale Arizona, and I keep getting one question that I dont understand. Why does an engine make more power when you retard the ignition timing at a high RPM like some ignition systems do? It would seem like, at high RPM, you would need more advance to burn the fuel. We at T/A Performance thank you for this answer. David Gramlow Scottsdale Arizona The response was very long, and if I can get my 80 words a minute wife to type it for me later, I will. Congrats for a little publicity for us David. Also same issue they have a comparo with a Torino GT 429 (1970) and a (1972) GS 455 Stage 1 4-speed car. Magazine calls Anne and Rich Dias as the owners of the GS. Good reading.
TA Performance writing to a magazine for advice, and using DG's name?sounds like someone pulled a fast one, don't you think ?!?!?!? :blast:
For sure, no doubt in my mind. I've emailed Mike and Dave at TA asking them about it. Very puzzling... I don't know what the purpose of the true writer would be.
It's pretty sad when some loser has to write in to a national magazine, to attempt to cast a doubt about one of the businesses in our little circle. Sad indeed.. Boy.. who writes stupid letters all the time.. and is trying to get into the engine business now... Mnnnn I wonder..
I've emailed Mike at TA, and the guy who does the Q&A section in HMM. Will let you know if I hear anything back.
Oh yeah duh...I guess HMM got duped like Dan Rather  Or maybe like Dan Rather it was done intentionally and now it's back firing. I'm still waiting for my monthly love letter  I have a nice collection.
Mike T left a message with HMM at the time, don't know if he's heard from them or not. I emailed "Ask Ray" but have not received a reply. Probably won't either.
Do you think it would be too much to ask for HMM to follow up with T/A and call them prior to printing an answer to a question that an "expert" would obviously know in the first place?
Ken i thought the same thing and it's not like they don't know the TA performance name they were mentioned twice in the performance a body write up and they have an ad in the mag. seems like a lot of lapses in common sense.
I would lay the blame on "Ray" more so than on the magazine in general. Maybe he shouldn't be writing such a column... then again, someone should be proofing his stuff and catch these things.
Not only does TA have an ad in that magazine, but its on the SAME PAGE as the answer to "Davids" question. ou:
I'm hoping they address this in their next issue and not take the "political" route of not admitting to being taken. Those who read it and aren't "in the know" deserve an explanation.
