IMO, I don't think you can have too much cooling capacity.

I completely agree ! but the point was i dont believe anyone makes a 4 core aluminum radiator :Dou:

Technically speaking, there's only 1 core and 2 tanks on any radiator. :Smarty: "Rows" is I think you mean.

I just got a post card from Summit telling me its still on back order for another 2 weeks. Mine is just pissing a little at the left tank under the cap.
I'm getting a little impatient. Is it worth the wait or should I look elsewhere or get a repair.

I'm happy the quality of mine. If I could get it totally installed i can give you full results. Work, then away for Holiday, the yard, now the golf league has pushed the installation back. The back order means its popular. Ithought it would be thats why I bought mine early. Maybe this would help, the manufacturer stamped on it is Northern Radiator.

    My new radiator isn't aluminum---but I bought a replacement for my 72
GS/455----it was an ABSOLUTE drop in NO fitting problem---it runs COOL
    and was $105 :) ---delivered in 2 days. www.radiatorbarn.com. It's been
in for over 2 months and has run fine in UPPER 80 degree weather---on the
    hwy and city driving. Pete

Got my aluminum rad yesterday(monday) from UPS. Received a card from Summit on Friday advising me it was shipped . Packed well and looks good, no damage. Light as a feather.

Stave, I don't know what a Cat takes, but the dimensions are in their catalog
    also on line at Summit.

could someone post or message me the part number for me?

i searched for it and couldnt find it

guess i need to practice some searching.

Grimm see post #1 in this thread. Also, for all, I got mine in and running. Keeps the Stage at temp set up by therostat and fans (2 clicks on factory gage). When going down the road and on the highway one full notch drop on the factory gage. Much better than before. I intend to get the air conditioning system back on and running. Lets see how it will handle that on a hot 92*day.

    now i feel blind...

i could have sworn there was no part number there...

    thanks

how would i find a dual electric fan setup that matches the radiator?

match (as close as i can) dimensions?

i can make some brackets if i need to

    and a little more:

Would it be good to get an additional transmission cooler, or is the one built in and stock fine?

and i know youve been all saying that the hoses are 1 1/2 like buicks, so what do they mean by: "Tube Size: 1 in."

    thanks

all dimensions seem to match up fairly well to mine.

I got my rad from Summit yesterday and did a mock install. I'm going to have to relocate the bottom cushions, as the tank spacing is different. No big deal. The biggest problem is the stock, upper mounting plate doesn't line up too well. The tanks are different sizes than stock ones, and the tank on the driver's side will run into the core support before the tanks are centered in the top bracket. I have some pictures, and I'll post them tomorrow.

I weighed the radiator -- it weighs 20 lbs. It's certainly heavier than a stock, late model aluminum/plastic GM radiator, but it is lighter than a stock, 4-row brass/copper radiator. I can't recall how much the stock, Modine 348/365 weighs -- I'll have to weigh it again.

According to the paperwork supplied with the radiator (which is made by Northern, as posted), the radiator is equipped with an "Ultra Duty" trans cooler, whatever that means.

Inlet and outlet sizes are both 1-1/2". It is 2-row, and the tube thickness of the rows is 1" each.

The most disappointing aspect is the top plate. It will take some fabricating.

I installed mine the other day. There is some difference in line up of the top plate but I bolted mine up and it's fine. I slipped some extra rubber mounts I picek up from the bone yard in there just in case but dont think I needed to.

    Ok what happened.

Who bought one of these and how did it actually work out??? Is the tank spacing ok for the mounts or are the tanks just wider (thicker) than the 3 core isolators will hold??? Did you see the temp drops you were hoping to see over the brass/copper radiator??

    thanx

read Torqued455 reply. i ran into the same issues as him. even if you put the drivers side tank right up against the core support the top plate is still off an inch and a quarter. i got mine almost centered by pursuading the core support with a torch and a hammer :Dou:. if you are running electric fans its not an issue. it's not for the purist. cooling wise i switched from a 3 core and my temps don't go over 190 on the highway. they use to run 210 plus

Absolutely yes. Before with a 4-row Modine 348 and a 160 stat, temps would creep up to 200F+, either crawling in traffic or at highway speeds.

Now, I can pick my temp! I had to replace the 160 stat with a 180. Won't budge off of stat temp. As I stated in a previous post, there are installation issues. If you are OCD, then this radiator is not for you.

Runs cool in stop and go traffic with no problem. I use factory gage and it used to go over half way. Made for some tense driving and car would lurch and stall. Now it nevwr goes over quarter way same traffic conditions and the other day it 90* outside. As far as mounting it's true it does not line up exactly as original. But all I did was put in an extra set of rubber mounts I got from junk yard to take up shift. Ill try to get some photos in here later today.
