My situation is quite different though. I am starting from scratch. This car has a 300" in it now. I don't have a low wear/mile motor with all the accessories in place. The days of finding a low mile donor car are long gone. Heck, they haven't made 455s for 33 years. So, I will be talking about a full build from a machine shop and a donor motors for all of the brackets and what not. Then headers, motors mounts kit etc. It all adds up in a hell of a hurry. This is the reason why the LS1 is so tempting. They are plentiful and can be bought pretty reasonable with low miles. Kind of like 455s back in the day. But, let's see what Jim quotes me.

Those are the facts. Kind of hard to ignore.

my wasnt a low wear motor i even honed it with one of those junk 3 prone hones :Dou:. my buddy just picked up a 70 455 with all the pullies belts everything complete for 250 bucks with a 400 transmission of craigslist. back to the main idea though, which is you can build a pretty stout 455 pretty cheaply. we've done a couple this way.

I have a big block buick in mine, but would love to hear how this build goes. As the man stated, they all add up, it does not matter what heart it has?

Not for long! With a 455 and all the torque that the 455 will put down vs. an LS1. You'll still need a 700r.
These arent v6's waiting for boost.
(Ok, I'm open now to the 200r lovers...lol)

Better safe than sorry, go 700r.
    Found in:
    (Big body 80-85 4.1 V6/ 5.0 V8 in the Olds 88 & 98 models,
    80 + up Pontiac Parisienne/Bonneville (RWD),
    and 80-84 Buick Electra/LTD/Park Ave models with a 4.1 V6 /5.0 V8
and 80-85 Lesabre series 4.1 V6/5.0 V8. All RWD 4 door and Wagon models.
(No 3.8 litre/231 V6 Tranny's as some of the big body cheaper models actually were available standard with a 231 motor)

Also remember that the carbed LS1 won't see the gas mileage the FI versions do.

All this from a guy who loves his LS1 car, until I listen to the door close on my 1971 GS and wonder what happened for that sweet sound to have gone away on my 2001 GM ride.

LS1 cars are cool, but you have a classic buick! Put the 455 in it!

Plus people put LS1's in everything, and it is starting to get ridiculous.

So you like my car when i had 10k in motor and supercharger, but not when i have 3k in my motor and turbo, make the same power, run the same et, less cubes, and trippled my gas milleage? lol:Dou:

keep "goin fast, with more of daddy's cash"

My daddy doesn't pay for anything that I do *. I work hard and earn money to build my cars the way I want. My dad is lucky if he gets to help me out with them every once in a while. I will not be impressed by your car because of the fact that everywhere I look there is a * LS1 in everything. It is just as bad as putting a SBC in there to "go fast" you can go just as fast or faster with the Big bad buick.

when you acutally start making enough power to start breaking blocks then you can get back to me...then you know where im coming from and why i switched. I love MY buick and cant or wont shell out 6k just for a block, im not a loyalist to anyone but ME.

Its funny how you say your dad doesnt help or pay for anything, but in posts ive seen him say how he wants/thinking about doing this or that to your car...kinda contradicting yourself there

He helps me to sell parts to make a little extra money. I do the work pulling the parts off. He posts the stuff for sale.

He says that because I talk to my dad about what my plans are for the car, so that he can help.

I wasn't baggin on you for having something different. I just said id be impressed if it was a Buick engine in the car. And I did say that the LS1 is a cool/good engine. But IMHO it has no place in a classic Buick.

Ok, sorry where this thread went, but I feel compelled to step in here.

Mr. buick46270, why don't you read from the top of the post. Tyler said that engine is cool, but likes buick powered buicks. Like most on this board. Sure, there are easier ways to purchase power, you can write a check for all kinds of power. Or, like most on this board, you can build a buick engine and car because you want to be a little different.

I respectfully ask you to speak only of what you know to be true when it comes to my family. Someone should have taught you what happens when you assume, but if nobody has, then ask someone to help you. I do talk alot about Tyler's cars, as if they were mine, and I have Tyler's permission to do so. I help him research, I help him work on them when I can, I help him sell parts from the car's that he buys, and I've even co-signed on a loan for him to buy more Buicks. If you have heard of a book, Bible, I have taught Tyler to fish. And he has proven quite capable and I am a proud Dad.

Now, I'll step down. I'll probably ask Tyler to delete his post, because he was angry and offended at your tasteless ignorant post.

I had admired your car before, and even posted that. Now after your personal attacks, i will say, write a check for whatever your can afford. WE will keep on building these old Buicks.

Again, sorry for the post issue here.

I really don't care what anybody has in any type of vehicle. Put in what you want and have fun with it while you can, even if all you do is tow it for your son, and watch it go down the track, just have fun. You may see us defend ourself, but just happy to see people running something around.
