By the end of this week I will be breaking in my new 350. Many say that the best way to do this is 500 miles with non detergent oil. What are the benafits of using non-detergent oil? A friend of mine says detergent oil would be better from the stand point that you want cleaning agents when your breaking in. Some one here has got experience doing both I'm sure. If you can shed some light on this subject I would appreciate it. Just one more question, what is EOS? :Do No:

I always use detergent oil, even during the break-in. Detergent oils have a better additive package and anti scuff agents. Most cam companies tha I have talked to highly reccomend against using non detergent oil for breaking in their cams.

EOS stand for engine oil supplement, it is available at GM dealers. It is an additive that GM reccomends for breking in an engine. It is really good stuff. Jim Burek
