Learned something about alternators this week. Make sure that the main post does not loosen up. If it does it will start arcing and burning things, like the wire near it! Fortunatly the only thing that happened is I got stranded with no lights and had to get flatbedded home.

The car was telling me that it had a problem because the voltmeter would jump around a lot. I thought that I had a loose wire on the meter and did not check it out soon enough. Lesson learned.

Hope this helps someone avoid this problem.

Ouch, not a good way to find that out. At least the damage is minimal. Though don't you hate having it towed home, then learn it was something you probably could have fixed at the time?

Only cost 30 bucks at the yard for a good Delco replacement that puts out 14.6 volts. Two things you need with our old cars is a cell phone and a AAA gold card. The flatbed driver has a 1981 Regal. Wants to put a Chevy in though ( better than the Pontiac POS motor in it now.)
