Well, can anybody tell me why my OTC digital Volt/Dwell/Ohm meter won't read true dwell? I finally found the source of my ignition troubles was as simple as point gap(it's always the simple things I overlook ou: ) Back in the old days I had an analog meter to set dwell, but thats since been replaced with a digital meter(so I can repair my GN).It seems that even though I had the meter set to 8 cylinder,it was reading nearly double. It read 30*,but when I physically checked the point gap,it was over .025"! I reset the points to .016" and its a new car! I simply had to find the problem before upgraded to a better ignition as I can't stand to throw parts at a problem.
Al, Don't worry, I still run points in both my cars, I had problems with the Pertronix getting along with my MSD 6A, the wagon seems to run just fine with points in it....as a matter of fact it ran it's best time at the strip with a set of Blue Streaks triggering the MSD! I don't turn my engine over 5800 so point float isn't a problem
Points Thanks Kurt, I figure if they worked from the factory for years ,they should be able to work now. I will be upgrading to electronic, but I HAD to find this problem first. And as for you JW, if you lift your hat, you should be able to find a point....
Hey.... Sure, from Al, I will take that abuse... You know what they say about short people...  JW
Ouch Aw,come on now Jim , everybody is short compared to you.. Glad to see you can take a joke..:beer By the way,I'd be willing to bet your very own 68 GS 400 convertible has points in it.............?
Re: Ouch Why yes, it does... but then again, it has not moved in about 12 years, so I don't think that counts. ou: When it does go back into use, it won't be wearing points, you can be sure of that. :error: I like a mag trigger, but have had good sucess with the Pertronix stuff. JW
