Distracting noise when braking my '65 GS

I have a noise coming out of my car when I put on the brakes. It sounds like it's coming out of one of the rear wheels and the noise is sort of a "crik, crik, crik" that changes according to the speed I'm at when I put the brakes on. The sounds is getting louder and I can hear it until the car comes to a complete stop. It's lound enough to be a distraction at this point, but the brakes seem to work just fine. Even though there's no noticable change in performance, it does have me worried.
A quick visual inspection doesn't give me an answer, I thought before I drag it into a shop maybe someone on the board has some familiarity with this and an answer?

    thanks,

On some of the newer vehicles we had a problem as follows:

When the manufacturer machines the drums they leave small grooves. Because the drums are "turned" (on a lathe) the effect is that these grooves act like little screw threads. The shoes will catch in these threads and be pulled away from the backing plate, until the point where the attaching springs overcome the force and pop the shoes against the backing plate. This cycle happens repeatedly during a stop.

If this is what you have it will be vehicle speed dependent (ie, the click will get slower as you go slower) and will be on one side only.

The fix is to knock the grooves out, by honing or polishing down in the drum.
