The only thing that could cause that is a misalignment of the distributor in the cover, or the cam gear is off center, and putting a side load on the distributor shaft. I would expect to see some type of wear on the cam gear though. That sucks Steve. I'm starting to believe you about the Voodoo doll:grin:

The only thing I can think of is some kind of side loading. E-mail JW and ask him to look in on this thread.

What does the "grease" look like that's packed into the cavity around the top bushing?

What does the lower bushing/shaft look like?

First Guess: Misalignment of the timing cover/cam gear/distributor gear will wipe the bottom bushing faster than the top bushing.

Any chance the rear cam plug is pushing the cam too far forward? You must be using some decently soft distributor gears, which is good considering the wear is happening on the distributor end rather than the un-replaceable cam end. I'd be tempted to stick a harder gear on the distributor, but that might invite wear on the cam if there is an underlying issue.

I'm thinking it must be the cover he is using. It has wiped out every distributor he has ever used in it. The Mallory he was using took the longest to go bad, I guess because it uses bearings instead of bushings? This was on a previous engine build, same cover, so the rear cam plug is probably not an issue. The cover is an older TA cover. Steve is using regular duty distributor gears as far as I know.
