Brought my block to the machinist to be magnafluxed and have the bores sonic checked before going forward. Took a couple pictures of the valley and casting number. Wondering if you guys see core shift in the lifter bores? I should have wall thickness by the end of next week. Thanks Josh
can't really tell by the pic, but doesn't look bad. Measure it and you will know. Also if that's a keeper after your sonic test, I would go in there and remove all those sharp jagged edges from around the lifter bores in the cam tunnel. Smooth everything out with rounded edges. I also like to polish the inside, especially the 4 corners where oil drains back from the heads. I like to take a few days polishing/smoothing out the rough casting texture underneath. Anything to help oil from not clinging causing drag, but to help drain back to the pan faster. ps: don't forget to measure lifter bores while you are there, hint! hint!
Look at Jim Weise's thread on core shift, https://www.diyauto.com/manufacture...y-sonic-checking-is-so-important-by-jim-weise Take pictures like the ones in Jim's thread. Straight down at the lifter bores. That isn't the only consideration. Sometimes, core shift isn't apparent until you get the sonic check results.
