Replaced the z-bar bushing today. I noticed the linkage wasnt smooth and almost felt like it was binding. The rubber on the old bushing was toast and the inner hole was offset. I installed a repro adjuster rod and bushing too. There was a homemade adjuster in there with a ball end that was completely shot. The ball had quite a bit of play. While I was there, I took the z bar apart and regreased the ends. The linkage is as smooth as butter and all the slop is gone! Its like a new car. What a difference a small afternoon repair can make.
That boot is long gone on my car. The white nylon inserts were still in good shape though, so I cleaned it all up and put it back together. The felt washer was MIA, so I'll order one this week from Ground Up witha few other things I need.
The rebuild kit has a lot more parts in it than i took off.... I guess we are going with the mopar boot. Mine was gone as well. :3gears:
And the last part of the linkage rebuild- the clutch pedal. The hole was oblonged bad. Lots of play. I had the hole TIG'ed up by a friend of mine (I only make good snot weldsp ) and I redrilled it. For the record, the hole needs to be .400. The closest drill bit is letter size X which is .397. I filed the hole just slightly and got a real nice fit. Now to put it back in tomorrow and my linkage rebuild will be complete. Everyone really ought to do this. There is almost zero play now. Sweet! BTW- you can see where the linkage bracket was welded back on the pedal. Looks like the car had a real heavy clutch in it at one time. Probably happened during its street racing years in the mid 70's :3gears:
