I'm wondering what models of Darts would be legal for Pure Stock. My first car was a 70 Swinger but I like the 67-69 body styles better. Can it be a GT or does it have to be a GTS? I assume a 340 is mandatory since the 318 or 270 isn't a performance engine.

If you use the 67-68-69 body style, than it must be a GTS. The GT came with a 170-225-273-318. You could, however, use a 1967 GT with the 273 Four Barrel. That is the only year to use a GT and a smaller engine that would be allowed in PS. The rest are all two barrel versions. The 67 GTS came with a 383 only for that year. The 68-69 came with the 340/383 and a late 440 in the 1969 "M" code GTS. Don't forget the the 1969 340 Swinger. More were built than the GTS, plus it weighed a couple hundred pounds less than the GTS. That's free horsepower out of the same 340. ~scratch that~ I just looked up my GTS's weight vs. a 1969 340 Swinger at the 2005 PSMCDR and they are within a few pounds of each other. Hmmm....
If you want to use the 1970 version, than the 340 Swinger is your only choice.
I would love to see another A-body Mopar out there!!

I used to have a sweet 73 dart with a built 318 an 4 speed to boot. But as the ex-wive tales go. The rag sold it when I was driving a Truck over the road. Then I had a old beat up 74 twister duster 318 auto. An I raced it up against my stepdads 67-68 mustang fastback with a built 390 an I smoked him in the quarter mile. lol .... an he sold that ford not long after. There is a lot you can do thats tricky to get it to hook up an run if the other driver isn't paying attention to what you done to it. But having 3.55 limited slip in rears helped too.

You could also clone a GT into a GTS, if that suits you, but it must be authentic to GTS specs.

The Hemi Dart would not qualify according to the rules as it is not a street car.

OEMMAXIE I didn't think you could get a A body to weigh that much. You need to put that fat lady on a diet

I was just looking at the 2005 results. Unless I missed one none of the 340 cars got near low 14's. I think the best was 14.6 at 93mph. Is this about right for a 70-72 340 A or E body? They all had serious rear gears too. When the time comes to buy/build a car I'd like to run low 14's to high 13's to keep up with a certain Jr. Supercar:), so the research now will save some dissapointment later.

    Thanks,
    Matt

You didn't look close enough. Towards the bottom of the first page of race results.
    13.89 @ 100.17 for a certain bright blue 340 1969 GTS with a 727 and 3.91 gears.....

Didn't mean to overlook your Dart. I went to your website and knew you ran a good #, I just missed your name. If I go the Dart route I'll be in touch to get some small block Mopar secrets:)

    05 stanton was'nt pretty

I was at 05 stanton, don't let my #'s scare you,i was running a 340 built to 73 spec's i later found out, after i blew it up on my 4th pass at stanton.Since then i rebuilt it to 70 spec's and it went 14.25 at 98mph in martin.Ive got a few more things to straighten out on the car and expect to run high 13's if i make it to stanton this year.

Um, yeah. BIG difference between a 1973 340 and a 1970 spec 340!! Good thing it wasn't built to gosh awful 1974 standards. You would have slowed down some more!!
