Eric, I have one of the light duty hitches that bolts to the frame (it came off a 72 Skylark). $45 plus shipping.

You can go to U-Haul or pretty much any good trailer shop, and they can make you one. Good idea to shoot for the heaviest setup you can get - thick-shank towball, etc. I went for the 6,000lb Class 3 setup, plenty strong!

BUT - Make sure it BOLTS to the frame, instead of letting then weld it in. Nothing wrong with welding as far as strength, etc, but if you're like me and need to remove the gas tank, you get to cut it out. :Dou:

    Eric,
I assume you plan to do light towing????? If you get under your car and look
at the rear frame rails, there is not much to them. Next, ask to look at a friends 1/2 ton Chevy/Ford/Chrysler truck and notice the huge difference in material and construction. I would not pull anything more than 3000-3500 lbs GVW with your Skylark and make sure it has trailer brakes (surge or electrical)

If you are going to pull something of size, like a race car+ trailer+spare parts etc on a fairly consistent basis, get a truck.

I guess that ill have to reinforce the chasis im trying to tow my 66 skylark, I dont think i wouild way to much with fiberglass parts im assuming that i would be under 3400 lbs

You are figuring the car alone. You need to add the weight of the trailer. Most tandem trailers are roughly 2000 lbs. So, you are at 5400 lbs.
The reason I stated "light" towing would be trailering a couple motorcycles, waverunners, quads or a small utility trailer. Also, need to take into consideration that your regular Skylark has a 350 and 2.56-2.73 gears. Neither are ideal for towing especially if you have any sort of hills/mountains in your area.

I'm with George, towing 5500# with a Skylark would be pushing things, especially these days when everybody thinks they need to do 80 with a trailer behind them. Although if you live where it's mostly flat, and don't hurry, you could do it.

I like overkill on stuff like hitches, even though I don't plan on towing 6000#, I don't EVEN worry when pulling our 3500-4000# boat/trailer combo. Seen too many "heavy duty" towing parts fail on other peoples' cars. :Dou:

BTW - Don't forget the BRAKES!!! That's really the most important part of towing, being able to STOP! You don't have to pass anybody, but you sure don't want to run over them. :TU:
