That truly sucks. Corporate in any large co. has no clue of what the effects of what their actions are. The books/manuals they threw away were worth a small fortune in the right environment, and your folks knowledge and learning were irreplaceable-thats a crime. I'm sorry for what you went thru.

To the gentleman in the above post , i agree toyally the story of if it ain't in the computer it dont exist is bs . A good parts man can be a real god sent.My car guy buddy just hates the mech.s in the local gm dealer he says their not mechs their parts changers.Even the newer cars can be trouble shot to a certain externt without the computer.Enough babble ifeel 4 u & good luck and thanks 4 sharing your knowledge. later bake

Thanks for the kind words. It's been years since I was in Sask. I took several fishing trips there with my father when I was younger. It is beautiful there. In my time at dealerships I came across another parts counterman at on of the Ford dealers in Regina that was up to speed and a real gearhead as well. If I can find his contact info in my roll-a-dex I will pass the info on.

To further the confusion here, it's interesting to note that the gearsets and the planetaries of the 4R70w's and AOD-E's, used in later rear wheel drive trucks and Mustangs are almost identicle to the FMX stuff from 35 years ago!:idea2:

Parts guy...... you wouldn't work for minimum wages and you can read. They have no use for that in today's world. Try getting a part for a small block Chevy or Ford without telling them the year and model of the car.
I have a Windsor powered '84 Ranger with a remote filter setup. If I walk in and ask for an FL-1 filter, we have to go through the year, make, model, Seat color, and does it have power steering? Occasionally I'll tell them it's for an 84 Ranger, with a 408" 4BBl V8 without power steering and an empty ashtray. Usually gets a blank look after 10 minutes on the computer, and a call for the manager. Gives me time to read the magazines while they run around in circles. Doesn't pay much, but it's fun!:Brow:
