i have a 53 special 8 and i threw a rod in the straight 8........ now i want to do a small block conversion i can get a chevy 350 for not that expensive but i have a few general tech questions. first off where can i get mounts for that engine to put in that car? and will that engine bolt directly up to the three on the tree tranny? please help me out guys i really need to get it running so i can get to work
Sounds like a custom job...I really doubt anyone makes mounts for a Chebby motor in a 53 Special in the aftermarket. Unless you find some sort of adaptor for the dynaflow tranny, you're pretty much hosed.... Because if you change the tranny, then you have to convert the torque tube to an open driveshaft...and that also involves changing the rear end...MAJOR surgery! My advice - find a good straight 8. http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=UBB4
smartin........... i cannot find a good running straight 8 for the life of me.... but i was told that a 322 nailhead would fit into my car and into that tranny? do you know if this is true?
I don't know for sure. But I'm willing to bet that the folks on the BCA website will know! Here is the page - Similar to the link I posted above. http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=UBB2 Hope this helps. Also, try posting a wanted ad on the BCA site for a straight 8 motor...I'm sure there are people who know where one is.. Good luck! And most of us would really rather see you put a Buick engine back in your Buick:TU:
I know a car here that supposedly runs and is a straight 8 but its a 4dr so you wouldnt hurt anyones feelings by disecting it out. I think he wanted $1600 for it. I can go by and check it out if you would be interested. I was told it runs and drives not for sure but if it does thats a bonus for shipping
