This is a fun post. I'm a very casual racer (mostly T&T action) but was surprised to see I've hit 10 tracks so far. I've run on: Edgewater (Cincy, OH) TriState (Hamilton, OH) KilKare (Xenia, OH) National Trails (Columbus, OH) Norwalk (Norwalk, OH) Beaver Springs (Beaver Springs, PA) IRP (Indy, IN) Beech Bend (Bowling Green, KY) Richmond Dragway (Richmond, VA) Virginia Motorsports Park (Petersburg, VA) I've spectated at: Mid-Michigan (PSMCDR '98ish) Englishtown (FAST & F/S '06) Cecil County (V6 shootout '02)
I remember that, too. I think Bob started to get out of the car to talk to him. My mouse pad in front of me has a pic of that starter Nazi standing at the middle of my front door pointing to the starting line from that meet. Didn't do the burnout like BK, but was way over the line first time. It's one of my favorites.:beers2:
I remember that too. Bob Boden told us BK had done that because "you know how you can't see the starting line" I said "what do you mean you can't see the starting line" Then Rob Thomas (Dave's driver) said "what does he want a tennis ball on a string?" Raced at 1. Milan 2. Stanton 3. Morocco 4. Martin 5. Norwalk 6. Quaker city 7. Kil Kare Spent a LOT of time at Milan being about twelve miles from where I grew up. Been to a few more but not down the track
The Yellow Submarine has been on 11 tracks that I can think of, but I feel like I'm forgetting a couple...? Mid America Raceway - Wentzville, MO Ozark International Raceway - Rogersville, MO Kansas City International Raceway - Kansas City, MO Gateway International Raceway - Collinsville, IL Memphis Motorsports Park - Memphis, TN Music City Raceway - Nashville, TN Atlanta Dragway - Atlanta, GA Mid Michigan Motorplex - Stanton, MI US131 - Martin, MI US41 - Morocco, IN Norwalk - Norwalk, OH I've been to George Ray's "Wildcat Drag Strip" down in Paragould numerous times, but have never braved the "elements" and raced there...
Let's see... Norwalk Bowling Green Thompson Quaker City National Trail Marion County Magnolia Sunset Pacemakers Dragway 42 Drag City 11... not that many.
You ever run over at Sikeston? I've been by bunches of times, and it looks nice, but being 1/8 mile put it down on my priorities list...our curent high school principal & girls basketball coach was the head coach over at Senath-Hornersville for quite a while...
Let's see ... in no particular order. Milan, MI Stanton, MI Martin, MI Quaker City, OH Kil-Kare, OH Nat Trails - Columbus, OH Norwalk, OH Englishtown, NJ Bristol, TN Bowling Green, KY Great Lakes Drag-O-Way, WI IRP - Indianapolis, IN US 41 - Morroco, IN Gateway - Kansas City, IL Visited, but not raced at: Alaska Raceway Park - Palmer, AK  So I guess that puts me at 14.
What an interesting thread to see how many tracks you guys have been to. Muncie Dragway (Indiana) (first time I raced was with Dads new '84 Plymouth Turismo 2.2 5-speed, don't tell him ) Indianapolis Raceway Park Huntsville Dragway (Alabama) National Trail Raceway (Columbus Ohio) Bunker Hill Dragway (Indiana) US131 Dragway (Martin Michigan) Mid Michigan Motorplex (Stanton Michigan)
Most of my racing was done in the early 60's, so some of these tracks are long gone. US 30 IN. closed Oswego IL. closed Chicago Amphitheater Chicago IL closed Byron IL. Union Grove WI. Cordova IL. US 41 IN. Martin US 141 MI. Mid Michigan MI. Some of you elder Chicagoans, if there are any out there, may remember the racing in the Amphitheater at 43 and Halsted. Only did it for one year, I believe in the winter of '62. Was indoors and only about 440' with about 600' of shut down. You raced between concrete pillers and through door ways and finished outside of the building. I only did it once and said, "never again". If I remember right the fastest times were about 6 seconds. I believe they called it the "World Premier Indoor Drags". Ah the good old days. Bob
Steve Gray and the petcos, Remember the racing at Akron? First time I ever saw Arfons. Do you still run Mag, I hear it's down to !/8 mile now?
