I have a 70 GSX Stage 1 that I just completed last June and have taken it drag racing last summer at Portland International Raceway. The car's spec's are as follows... 70 Gsx Stage 1 455
bored out to 462/ forged pistions/ mild pocket porting on the heads/ crane 218 duration 112LC cam/ cast iron intake/ TA Jet Hot coated headers/ mandrel bent exhaust 2-1/2" w 40series
flowmasters w/crossover pipe/ 3.64 posi/ air bag in right rear coil
7" buick rims on front/8" buick rims on rear w/ BF Goodrich 295-50/15's/ turbo 400 w/ 2500 stall converter and shift kit/ car shifts at 5200. / Carb 71 Quadrajet 800cfm.
My best time last summer on these street tires was 12.90@ 105.89 in the 1/4. I can't hook it up on the low end and just have to feather it out of the hole.
I am trying to decide what Mickey Thompson tires to put on.
The ET Drag's or the ET Streets, and what size would be best.
Not having to change tires at the track sounds nice!
I would like to mount whatever tires I decide on,on 15x8 Buick rims w/ 5" back spacing.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.
Also does anyone know where I can purchase a 69 GS Grill
for my brothers 69 GS 400 Convertible?

I saw a picture in here somewhere of about 6 1969 grills all layed out. Who's got these. I am still figuring out how to work this site. And my son will put a picture of my GSX in here,as soon as we figure out how to use this site.

I think you would be happy with the ET Streets....Probably the 28x12.5 would do well for you.
They are 28" tall x 10" across the tread..Would fill the wheelwell nicely.

    Thanks Gary,
Should I use tubes and/or use rim screws?
    What tire pressure?
Also, I have a Crane 226 duration cam w/110LC that I could put
in . in place of the Crane 218 /112LC. I also have a Performer
Intake I could put on ,and steel head gaskets+double roller
timing chain. Do you think these items would help my ET.
By putting the ET Street tires on ,what kind of times can I expect?
Should I up my governer to a higher shift point from 5200RPM?
    Thanks, Eric

Hi, I use ET Drags, 26x10x15, on Weld Draglites that are 15x8 with 4.5" backspacing. Wheels/tires are perfectly centered in the fenderwells. I did use screws/tubes.

I usually start out at about 15 lbs., cold, and go from there depending on how the track is that day and how they're hooking. I think the lowest I've taken them is 12 lbs. once they've been warmed up. I spin ever so slightly off the line.

I would think that going to slicks, you would pick up a good .2 to .3 in the quarter if you're spinning a lot off the line. As for the cam change, running a higher duration cam means you'll have more top end power, but lose torque down low where you probably want it most. The intake shouldn't hurt, it's lighter and I would think would be worth another .1. As for your shift point, I've read and been told that you should shift 200 to 300 rpm's above your max HP reading. So if you're cam produces it's max HP at 5000 rpm, then shifting at 5200 is just right.

I've tried a little shifting between 5700 and as high as 6300 rpm, and haven't seen much of a difference, so I now shift a 5800-5900 rpm as my peak HP was at 5600 on a chassis dyno at Norwalk last year.

Stay w/ the Iron intake....The Performer won't show any notable ET gain.Plus the Iron "looks" better when people come over for a look under the hood.

I would mount the ET streets tubeless,Bubble balance them and go.
Pressure should be 15+/- but never below 13lbs
In this application you won't need screws or tubes.

Start with the tires and see what it runs,Then you can better decide on what changes to make.

I would say next up would be more cam and converter.....

  7. Eric, I believe the post with all the 69 GS grilles were ones that Daves69 had repaired for others, and were not actually for sale.
