Check out the new episode this week-end. I was a little disappointed how they ended up doing this thing, but OK none the less. A couple of guys take a COPO Camaro down the track and tune it up! Don't miss the first few minutes, or you've missed a lot of it! Just a little more Pure Stock talk!

Saw it last night, very cool!

I caught the show last night.
That Peter from the show(his name is Peter, not calling him one)is a pretty
darn good all around driver, it must have been kind of humbling to be taught
how to "drive" a car on Polyglas/Wide Ovals

It cracked me up when they made the remark on how suprized they were
about how much air pressure you guy's "added" to the tire's to make them
    hook.
To bad they didn't let Jimmy and Pete line up and make a pass in their two
car's to show them how a 427 with EXHAUST MANIFOLDS will run with more
tuning and the cam degreed a little different than where the factory put it.

Good show though, and Pete made everything painfully clear at the beginning
    of the show :TU:

    from the 2004 Results thread

so if Pete and JJ had been called in to tune these Supercars before the taping of the shootout, then the numbers should have been:

    Chevelle 13.253 seconds

    AMX 14.148 seconds

    Hurst Olds 13.228 seconds

    Boss Mustang 13.043 seconds

    Buick Stage 1 13.260 seconds

    Hemi Challenger 13.713 seconds

    GTO Judge 13.390 seconds

The shoot-out was a total joke as far as I'm concerned!!!

First of all they used a Convertible GS weighing in at over 4100lbs(give or take). A Hemi-Challenger with a toasted clutch. A chevelle with mild gears. Half the cars were 4-speeds. I'm more interested in straight line comparisons. Not braking or slalom. Nobody showed up 35 years ago at the local burger joint bragging about their cars braking ability.

I like what F.A.S.T. is doing with the "Certified Stock" class. The way the cars should have come out of the factory! Those to me are good benchmark times. Just my coin!

F.A.S.T. is not involved with the certified stock program. Certified Stock is something that the organizers of the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag race came up with, and it is not a "class."

    The Rest Of The Story

Peter Klut contacted JJ and I after getting a "ton of hate mail" about some of his other shoot outs. The deal was he would bring his own COPO car that was race ready in his eyes. He wanted his car so he knew it was'nt some "ringer car". He would do all the driving after we made all the changes. JJ would get the last two passes of the day, since it was a 4 hitter car. After we took off 7 tenths, he was quite impressed. What he failed to mention was that after another group of changes we did, he bent a valve, and that ended our day. There was a 12.5 in the car for fun! :spank: He has since fixed the valve and sold the car.
It was a fun day for all. He has expressed an interest in getting us back for a shootout of around 6 cars and having us come and try and have them race ready. We're hoping to get him to come to a Sept Pure Stock race and give us some coverage. Nothing has been even close to being finalized, but we shall see.

That's worth pursuing -- good luck, Pete. He's just across town for me. If you think it might help, I'll pay him a visit at LMC later this Spring to help coax him. :3gears:
