I am looking for the style that uses the trans mount holes / cross member to install but I can only find the universal type that required holes in the floor (jegs & summit). Does anyone know of a source or do I have to make my own? Thanks.
Mark look under BMR racing . They have the unit you are looking for . On our Camaro the torque arm we have has two driveshaft loops . I feel much better with two . Did you see Pinks last week when a shaft came out during the burnout and a part hit a camera man ?
That BMR unit is not excatly what I was trying to describe. The unit I have seen in the past I believe is a one piece that has a bracket that mounts with the tranny mount and extends a loop just past the first U-joints. Does anyone have a picturee of Duttweiler Driveshaft Loop Kit?
I built mine, they used to be sold by Indian adventures and I believe Year one listed them. I did find another source for them. Im trying to find it.
Try this one mark. http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?input=loop&SM=1&SC=0 Cheaper but listed for the F body cars http://www.pro-touringf-body.com/chassis_components.html They are listed for F body cars. Im not sure if the length would be correct. Like I said I fabricated my own. It fits like a glove and is very simple.
Mark what diameter loop did you use and does the bracket mount under the trans mount ? Also between the mount and crossmember ?
I actually bent that steel for the loop to 4.25" inside diameter (heat and a small coffee can as a jig) and it turned out sweet. The drive shaft is 3.10" OD It mounts between trans and trans mount only
So far, test driven shows no signs of any rub/contact. This pic was taken on Friday which was after several test runs. I was concerned at first that it was too tight, but, so far so good.
What's the diameter on those year one loops? And how fast do you have to be for these to be required on most tracks?
Drive-shaft loop If you have slicks, you must have a drive-shaft loop. If your car runs 12.99 or quicker, you will need a drive shaft loop, even if you are running street tires.
Mark thanks for that info . Poison Heart a loop is a major safety item in my opinion . I saw a car drop a front u-joint in the traps once . The drive shaft caught and the car pole vaulted end over end several times and finished on the roof which was flat with the dash . The driver was dead when we got to the wreck . A loop is very cheap insurance .
I took her out on a 2 hour road trip today with both street and high way duty. The loop needs a minor tweek- I have detected a very rare, unpredictable rub on the drive shaftou: and it made the rub on two occasions for a milisecond-so, it is close! I thought it was almost like a detonation in the engine, but I knew it was not detonating. In the pic I first posted the paint is rubbed an itty bit on the drive shaft, and after todays road trip, it is actually just barely starting to wear the paint off.
