Wondering how far down the drive shaft are the stripes painted on ? For a 1970 455 with TH400, I believe the colors are brown and blue. Which color goes first ? thanks

Cheers, stripes are half inch wide Midway between the welds. Brown goes on the front side of driveshaft good luck.

Thanks again for all the help Tim. Drive shaft cleaned up pretty good with some sanding.

Sounds like you are trying to make it as correct as you can. So if that's the case to add a little more info, the stripes are not neatly applied. The shaft was turning and a brush or some type of applicator was simply put into contact with the turning shaft. The stripes were not taped off and perfectly painted like we all commonly see on restored cars. We've seen a lot of original driveshafts and the placement of the stripes has also not been consistent. It was an inexact process.

Think the colour combos are in the chassis manual.

There was definitely "artistic freedom" on the placement

You have to remember,we are over-restoring these cars. When they were originally built, they were not built or intended to be show-cars. They were built just like anything else, and sent down the line.
I have masked and painted them, and I have also had the car on the lift, and turned the shaft while applying the stripe.

If you scroll down about 1/3 the page there is some driveshaft stuff on there from my car (s). Probably a bit late already but kinda neat. I clear-coated my driveshaft after polishing, turned out well and still looks decent after 10+ years. No issues with balance at all, but just a nice light coat or two. Assembly manual shows the strips very close together I have measured up 4 different original cars all were quite far apart as mentioned above not an exact science.

They were not very exact putting them on. I have seen them in slightly different places and of different thicknesses . They were not neat about it
