Can anyone instruct me on how to separate the two chrome pieces without destroying the mirror, etc. in the process? I see a small hole on the underside of the chrome piece that surrounds the mirror, so logic would tell me I need some special tool to insert in there. Any pics to show the process would be helpful. Thanks.

If you tip the glass all the way to the top and hold it you can get to a screw on the lower middle just below the glass. If you remove the screw the glass and the adjustment cables will slide out. I had to put a little wd40 on the cables to get them to slide. Then there is another screw in the center that will seperate the two parts of the mirror. The small hole is just a drain hole. Thanks Bill.

    Next steps

I was able to push forward on the top of the mirror and unscrew the screw that keeps the mirror in place, but how do I separate the mirror and cables from the two chrome pieces?

Do I have to open each of the two lead-like couplers that each cable is connected to, in order to do this? The chrome pieces I just bought is junk, but the mirror and wiring is fine, and my two original pieces could be re-rechromed, since there's no pitting whatsoever. I had them rechromed a long time ago, but the guy who did it must have done a less-than-stellar job in some parts, because I'm now seeing some chromeless spots.

Would anyone have a good place for this type of parts rechroming?

You have to spread the metal apart just enough to remove the cable. Kind of tricky but with patience it can be done. I paid $80 locally to have them redone. Okay but not factory quality.
