I see by the sticky on Jim's GSX the drive shaft is silver. His being a 4 speed car the painted stripes are different color. The painted strips on drive shaft though? Is anyone know what would be on my 70 GS 455 automatic? I am not doing a concurs resto on this car but we refer to as a restification. Not a gold standard 400 pointer, just if taking the time to do things then try to do the correctly best as possible. I hope somebody can help out. I had 1 wisdom tooth removed today  so not as smart as yesterday...hehehe Thanx Dave
It is not silver paint on the shaft but rather bare metal. It was turned on a large lathe. The paint code for your auto car is in the 70 assembly manual.
Like Jim said it is in the assembly manual, but I am thinking it is brown & then blue spaced about 1/2 inch apart for auto turbo 400
These stripes were all over the place. Do not follow the diagram in the assembly manual on distance apart placement just colors. Other posts here show these stripes can be anywhere from 6" to 12" apart. THey were put on by hand apparantly.
Where is Quanta located ? Any more info to contact them? Dave(Copperhead) in another post you mentioned you have the copied loose leaf assembly manual with paint stripe info for 70. Can you confirm this brown and blue stripe? I only have chassis manual. Does anyone have a pix of a completed one ? Thanx Dave
Well Dean I had a very good foundation to start with since the previous owner took such wonderful care of the ole GS. Like I said I am only really doing a restification ....not a restoration. I know the amount of crazy dollars a concurs restoration can eat up. I want the car to look close as possible to original correct. But the part I am willing to say uncle on is if the amount of $$ I have in the car far exceed the final value. To go to the nth degree on a Stage 1 Rag or a RA IV Judge is smart spending as the final value is way up there. The door rubbers, bumper re-chroming, paint job, etc all costs the same on a Stage 1 Rag or a Skylark the end value is way different. I guess just spending good dollars where they give good results on this car and hopefully make a nice cruise nite impression or at a local grass show. Some day you and ole GS will meet again though Dean I hope. Thanx Dave
