OK, so the exhaust is very tired and in dire need of replacement. For restoration purposes, would a dual exhaust (reasonably quiet), or would the single exhaust be the way to go. I am not that interested in performance, but if it gives a bit more boost, then all the better. I guess my general question is, does it take away from the value with dual exhaust ??? 65 Lark w/ 300ci 2 Bbl. Many Thanks for input !!! Michael C Roseville, CA
Go for the dual exhaust. It shouldn't hurt the value, and might increase it slightly. You gas mileage might also increase as well, unless you have a real heavy foot. The 300 4 bbl came from the factory with dual exhaust. I did it with my 64 Skylark convert, 300 2 bbl and it really woke that little 300 up.:TU: Lastly, if your going to replace the complete exhaust system, it won't be twice as costly as a single exhaust, unless they are real shysters.
Thanks for the advice Mr. T. I have been quoted $450 for the single exhaust and $600 for the duals. Gotta remember I live in Kalifornia, where everything is expensive. After seeing on a lift, I can see the Engineers made room for dual exhaust. So the next question is, should I go 2.00", or "2.25 piping ??? I do not want to lose "any" of that awesome bottom end and at this point, do not see me putting on a 4Bbl, unless I had the engine rebuilt. (To much load on an original engine that is 43 years old) Any feedback appreciated !!! Michael C Roseville, CA
You had to ask me the hard question.  I cannot remember what size went on my old car, but I suspect that it was 2 inch. Perhaps another member will chime in with a response. Edit: I do remember that mine cost about $700.00, and that was 4 years ago, so you aren't too bad at $600.00. Then again, I went with Flowmaster mufflers at around $100.00 each.
Mister T, I am making the educated guess that it was 2" piping. From what I can see, looks like the 65 GS's came with dual exhaust factory 2.25" piping for a 401ci, so my thinking is that the 300ci, would benefit more with a 2" dual piping vs 2.25". Any other feedback appreciated !!! Many Thanks in Advance !!! Michael C Roseville, CA
