I been told that it is possible to dye Vinyl Tops and headliners. The one i currently have is a ugly tan color and i want it to be Black. What techniques, if any, are there and is it possible for a DIY type of job?

Just have it replaced. Not worth the aggravation

If this car will see any kind of use, dye won't last long.

I beg to differ. This was a common practice back in the day before they stopped installing vinyl tops. If the top is cleaned and prepped correctly, and you use a good dye, the dye job will last a very long time.

Obviously, you have to treat a dyed top right. It can be scratched, just like paint.

I dyed my '74 Apollo's white top to black, and that car was a daily driver, and it was not garaged. Never had any problems with the dye job.

Don't get me wrong, as I wouldn't do this on a car I was restoring, but for a driver, I don't see any problems with it. Just my .02.
