Legendary Interiors offers 2 different boots for the 68 GS Convertible Early https://www.legendaryautointeriors.com/product/68-gm-a-body-convertible-boot-early-68-w-clips-frost-wh/ Late https://www.legendaryautointeriors.com/product/68-gm-a-body-convertible-boot-frost-white/ Mine just has one snap on each side. I’ve seen references to 2 snaps on each side but mine only has 1 on each side. Is it supposed to be the early or late version? My build date is 12E, so was this December 67, so would it take the early boot? 12E 68-1968 4-Buick 4667 - GS 400 Convertible FL - Flint 130350 - Body Serial Number 172 - White Vinyl with Bucket Seats G Ivory Gold Mist Exterior Paint 1-White Convertible Top Thanks.
Early 68 boots have the boot with punch-outs cut into the plastic piece under the boot. These boots use plastic clips that snap on top of the chrome strip to attach the boot to the car. Later 68 boots are made like all the 69-72 boots. For these the plastic piece that is sewn underneath the boot slides under the chrome strip to attach it to the car. The rear chrome piece, “hockey sticks” as we call them, are mounted hard to the shell on the early cars and will not let you slide the plastic underneath. Your car 12D would be a mid-year car, so I have no idea which style you have. Duane
The metal strip that the "boot plastic" slides under is not "chrome" but instead, buffed "stainless"...
Yes the hockey sticks are stainless not chrome, you are correct. My description above is still accurate in regards to the two types of top boots. Duane
Thanks. I must have the early setup, because I have a brand new YearOne boot with the plastic connectors and it doesn’t fit under the chrome piece. I must need the early one with the clips. If anyone wants a late 68 boot from YearOne let me know. It came with my car. Someone bought the wrong one from YearOne in 2020. It’s brand new. I will sell it for a good deal. Thanks.
