whats up fellas i have just finished putting my baby back together, now i have to get my exhaust i am runnin headers with 2.5 pipes. I was wondering does it matter what type of muffler i buy as far as inlet and outlet since i am getting new pipes ran from the headers on both sides. And i was looking on ebay at the mufflers they say are just like the 40 series flomasters, does anyone have these or have anyone heard them? I am pretty sure they won't sound exactly like the original 40 series but are they close. appreciate it

I am almost there so close i can taste it:beer :bglasses:

if you have the TA headers they exit into a 3" pipe not 2 1/2" unless you are using the downsizer piping included with the headers which does run them down to 2 1/2". Dont buy and knock of crap on ebay. You will be disapointed. Do they have a warrenty? No the welds will probably blow out when you rev the the motor past 5k. Spend the extra 80 bucks for the flowmaster 40 series original flow. You will not be disapointed. Get an H pipe right after the downsizer pipes on the mufflers. Than exit the exhaust right before the rear axle. makes a nice note and will get you noticed.

im gonna get the t/a headers into 2 1/2 inch pipes then x-pipe and dump it right before the axles

Why go to 2.5 before the X-pipe? You'd be better off with a 3'' X and downsize to 2.5'' after the mufflers. Better flow since you're already at 3'' diameter because of the headers.

I believe the muffler inlet's can be expanded to 3'' (so I've heard but I have no 'hands-on' experience)

    I believe X-pipes are better.

so can i use any type of inlet, outlet ? I have a 70 skylark what should i use offset in, offset out? so should i not use the downsizer pipe and run 3 inch pipes all the way back?

    Hi Darius -

I'm no expert, and I hope I don't give you bad advice. With that said...

3'' pipes will be noisy. I've read that if you have headers, go 3'' and reduce (because of noise) to 2.5'' after the X crossover. It will not hurt performance for a 'mostly street' car.

Our cars use offset in/out mufflers. Reduce between the X outlet and the muffler inlet.

cool i appreciate that, if i am not running a X pipe, i just run 2.5 all the way back from the headers
