An exhaust shop installed a basic new system for my 73 Rivi 2 yrs ago but the sound is just not right:mad:

I want something that sounds like the original, maybe a bit deeper but certainly better quality. The aim is not to up the performance, a bit more HP would be nice, though:laugh:

I am looking at replacing the mufflers - any experience with Edelbrock, Magnaflow, Borla? What is your advice?

    Thanks!!!

Actually ,,,, there is another option,,,, build your own. I ran in to this with my 64 Riv.... it uses the dual crossover muffler that is hard to find and restrictive.... I wanted the muscle car sound, but hate the sound that flowmasters give.... So I got some 6'' sq. tubing, some 2 1/4'' exhaust tubing, and some sheet stock to make internal baffels and end pieces out of....
Then I drilled 400 1/4'' holes in the cross pipes and used my hole saw to make the holes in the internal baffel.... welded the end piece and the pipes in one end,,, slid the internal baffel in and welded it in , then the last end piece..
I nailed the 60s muscle car sound exactly.... and the car runs better than it did......

Thanks for this, doc. Your solution sounds ineteresting but that level of technical sophistication is waaaaay above what I am capable of doing:confused: . In our house it is my wife who changes the lightbulbs even:laugh:

Any other experience with aftermarket/premium exhaust systems and mufflers?

    Thanks
