Hey all i recently put an edelbrock performer series 600cfm carb on my 350, original was stock rochester (600cfm also i believe). i seem to be having alot of problems with it. I set everything to stock specs but it runs like crap... brakes down with heavy acceleration... i have to advance the timing a bit to get it to run ok but then it doesnt seem to have as much get up and go.....does anyone have any suggestions or am i better off just rebuilding my rochester? .......cheers :beer

Better off rebuilding the rochester qjet!

600 is too small. Stock rochester is 750 cfm:Brow:

Starting in 71, they stuck 800cfm qjets on 455's and stayed with 750 on 350's.

Later on, I believe there was a time when they stuck 800's on everything.

I had a 600 edelbrock on my 71 350 and it stunk. Never again.

:Smarty: If you want a 750 Edelbrock that has 6000 miles on it email me and we can go from there .

It works great but too small for the 455 .

Had an Edelbrok 750 cfm on my 68 350 in the 67. Ran pretty dang good. Then I put a 750 Q-jet from a pontiac I rebuilt and it runs even better.

I'm not a big fan of the Q-jet.... but... With it's design you could put it on just about any motor size, and it will run alrite. The over carbing problem comes from not having enough velocity past the venturi to suck gas out. The q-jet has small primaries, so that's not a prob. For the huge secondaries it has an air door, which opens based on load, and as it opens it directs air right past the venturis, preventing an "over carb" situation. On a 350 the secondary air door most likely will never fully open.
I believe the edlebrocks have a simialar air door setup. But 600 is too small. But it should run perfect, just not have as much power in the high RPM's. The q-jets were a production carb designed to work and give good gas mileage... some of us prefer carbs designed for performance.
