Hey, Me and my brother are working on a litte bit of a unique swap.

He's had a 82 GMC Caballero sitting for almost 5 years now with a blown Chevy 267 V8 in it.

We tryed swapping in a 307 out of a 69 Camaro but it kept blowing out one of the head gaskets (block or head must be warped?)

So after that we decided to put in the Buick 350 out of a 84 Cutlass I had to part out (body wasn't worth saving)

Changing the frame mounts to the Buick was a chore but it had to be done!

I installed a rebuilt V6 timing cover and a high volume oil pump, I know the high volume isn't the best idea but the engine had 5PSI at hot idle and re doing the bearings wasn't an option considering the engine runs quiet with no knocks or smoke.

We need to get the fuel line from the passenger side to the driver side, is it ok to use rubber fuel line for this? or something thicker like tranny cooling line?

I'll try to get some pictures of the progress.

On the fuel line issue... I really reccomend using a metal line. Even if it's something hacked with rubebr joints it'll be safer and more performant in the long run.

You should only use gasoline rated line, no matter who tells you the other stuff works... the tranny cooler stuff will age harden and crack after 1-2 years... I found out the hard way of course...

Add me to the list of folks want ing pics!

Rubber fuel line is OK :(
    Steel is better :TU:

But more than 12" of rubber line will stop your bracket racing day at the Tech line

When I assembled this thing(my daily driver) I installed a '70 Buick 350. I spliced (brass coupler) into the fuel line on pass. side just under the firewall area, then ran new steel line behind crossmember(with ft. brake line) then thru crossmember like it would be from the factory, to fuel pump. its a little tougher then running a rubber hose, but........................its the "right way to do it" :Smarty:

    Good man :TU:

I run those same wheels (84 T-type). Awesome backspacing and very low weight. You can drop 12.5" brakes behind those and never blink.

Has anyone ever done a mid/rear Elky? The frame is a few " longer than the usual one, it would make a great g-machine...

    Hey John,

Hows that thing run with the 350" in it ? My kid has been talking about this type of deal for his first ride. Of course he wants it black with the GN package but we'll see about that. They are plentiful around home and I have a "few" 350" parts laying around. Whatcha think ? Mileage decent at all ? You leave the stock rear in ? What kinda trans you use ? You change the doors outa need or just because ? Sorry for all the ???'s Just wonderin' is all...............

Dave, it runs ok, the engine came from an old "worn-out" '70 Skylark convert. that I parted out, 2 bbl. carb so, its not exactly a "power house" but it hauls most of the junk that I need to. yea, the GN thing has been done, I figured if I ever did get around to painting it, I'd go with the black/gray 2-tone deal, kinda like the "designer package" cars but since its a "beater" I plan on doing the "suede thing" (flat/little or no gloss), I should head down your way if their plentifull there, elCamino's are like gold around here for a solid one! Mileage??? compared to my '70 stg-1 with an old KB107 cam, or my BBC '84 suburban, yea it gets excellent milage!!! I'm one of those people that only drives 5 miles to work so, I really have never figured milage on it. yes, stock rear axle(don't know what gear), 350 trans from same '70 convert., I changed the doors because the regal doors match the 1/4's better then the regal ft. fenders match the elCamino doors. No problem, questions are good, I may have a few for you when your 350 runs quicker then my regal.

Glen, not sure I'd call it sweet, but...................I'll have to check around and see if I have any more pictures of it.

Glen, These are the only pics that I have on the computer right now, door to quarter fit, the weatherstrip area is the same between the regal & elcamino so sealing isn't a problem. I cut the 1/4's off the regal that I got the clip & doors from, so it'd be easier the modify the 1/4's to match the doors,(if I ever get around to it)

Feel free with the 350" questions man. I think I have a 500hp, boosted, pump gas recipe here now. Using all the stock(type) stuff, and on "dads" budget. When my testing is done with it, I am actually planning on it landing in my tow rig  . I am sure I'll do some blabbin' about it when its done, and I'll try and let you know too. Thanks again for the info.............

    John,

Thanks for the extra pics. I'm assuming you also had to swap the door glass from the Elco to the Regal doors? I can see how the quarter modifications would be somewhat easiest to modify.

I also think I have a twisted definition of "sweet".... One of my favourite cars at the strip one Friday night was a '74 Ranchero, rusty, primered. Looked unassuming, until it ran low 14's. Had a 351W, rebuilt with hypers, & alum. intake, on spray. I thought it was sweet! :TU:
