I was just wondering what kinda gains i can expect after i upgrade my car. Last year it ran 15.7's consistently at the track with one 15.6. Since then ive lightened the car about a hundred pounds. and i plan on switching from my current 2:73 open rear to a 3:43 or 3:73 posi. Im also gonna pull off the exaust manifolds and the $20 dollar exaust job that looks like someone bent the pipes with a torch and a bench vise and go with ta's large tube headers (if theyre available in chrome yet) and the exaust system from ta.....im currently running a poormans setup on the motor.....ISKY cam which has .450/.450 256/256 ...stock stall..TH350...10.25:1 pistons..60 over....with a edelbrock 600(yeah i know, not enough flow)....im eventually this year gonna get the TA212 and Intake and get a stall somewhere in the 2600 - 2800 range. Any ideas or anybody done the same thing? what times did you run?

I too am running a '69 GS California. When I first ran it bone stock it ran 16.0 @ 88mph. That was with the 2.73 open rear and small dual exhuast. Each year I changed one thing, low budget ya know, and gradually lowered my ETs. Somewhere I have a list of changes and what my times were, I'll have to try and find it. When I pulled the #s matching engine out, the car had run a best of 14.60 @ 94mph. That was with a 3.23 posi with air bags, 2 1/2" muffler shop system with H-pipe, Cheetah shift kit, and a Lunati SP29 cam kit. Stock intake, carb, and exhust manifolds were still in place. The car weighed 3700lbs with me in it.

I'm currently running a '69 350 block that's .030 over with TRW forged pistons, the TA 290-94H(?) cam, TA headers hooked up to the same exhuast system and the same 3.23 rear gears. The car has now ran a best of 14.15 @ 96 and has run some 97mph runs as well. That's still with the stock intake manifold in place.

What surprised me most in all the changes was the slower 60' times after adding the TA headers. The car lost over .15 in the first 60' but is definately making it up on the big end as evidenced by the higher mph speeds. I'm thinking of putting the stock exhuast manifolds back on this year to see if the 60' times come back. I like to run in the Pure Stock classes anyway as I don't practice enough to be consistent in brackets.
