Hello ! My rearaxle on the left site was leaking , so I took out the axle & hub. The o-ring and the gaskets look bad , so I decidet to put new parts in. I found a new o-ring , but now I should know how thick the gaskets shoulb be. You can see in one pic the outside and in the other pic the inside gasket. Should I just measure the old gaskets and replace them with the same thickness or is there another way to find it out? Original gaskets I do not find , so I have to cut them out by myself. Next question - what oil should I put in the rear axle ? Thank you for your help - hello from Germany Herby
I have done alot of bolt in axles and never replaced those gaskets. the axle seal should take care of it. I am pretty sure that is a factory thing for rust build up etc. Never had an issue yet. So do not kill yourself unless your making a concourse car. Pontiacs had steel shims in between the retaining plates. Jim
